PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jebediah Stewart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Currie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stewart comes to the cage accompanied by Momma Said Knock You Out. Currie is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Helmet - Just Another Victim. David Currie told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jebediah Stewart!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, David Currie!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Eddie Farnsworth and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Currie tries to close the distance and clinch but Stewart swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Stewart throws a head kick but Currie moves out of range.
Jebediah Stewart seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stewart throws a body kick that misses.
Stewart gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Currie cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Currie shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Stewart defends it nicely.

Stewart wants to sweep here but Currie controlling him for the moment.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Currie lands a couple of decent looking shots.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stewart is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Stewart wants to hit a switch here but Currie passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Stewart there!

Currie goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Stewart turns into him and now he's in Currie's guard.
Stewart would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Currie keeping moving, preventing Stewart from controlling successfully.
Currie lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Stewart!
Stewart tries to reverse the position but Currie maintains control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Currie dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Currie tries to score a power double leg takedown but Stewart sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Currie somewhat.

Stewart looks to score with a jab to the body but Currie is just out of range.

and Currie counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

and Currie counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Stewart lands with a nice body kick.

and Currie counters with a single leg into guard. Stewart didn't expect that.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Stewart is looking to improve his position.
Currie working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Stewart's thigh. Stewart counters though and makes it back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Currie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

and Currie makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Currie tries for a takedown but Stewart sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Stewart wants to sweep but no luck.
Currie tries to free his leg and advance position but Stewart is retaining full guard.

Currie is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Stewart frees his head nicely. Oh but Currie has switched to an armbar! Stewart is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
