PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lasse Uzi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Uzi has chosen Metallica - Iron Man as his entrance music. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
7 - 11 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, John Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Lasse Uzi!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Viktor Lagutenko and Aleksei Zolotukhin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Uzi tries to avoid it but Jones manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Uzi to the ground. Uzi escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Uzi thows a left - swing and a miss!
Uzi checks a low kick from Jones.
Jones feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Jones throws a big right hand that misses.
Uzi wants to stand up but Jones is controlling him.
Jones loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Uzi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Jones throws a strike but Uzi rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Uzi sitting in guard here, content to control.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones has his foot on Uzi's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Uzi works his way back into a safe position though.
Jones is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Jones wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Uzi is now in half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Uzi not doing much here.
Jones wants to get back to full guard.
Uzi stands up from half guard.
Jones misses with a takedown attempt
and Uzi counters with a lovely straight right hand!
It looks like John Jones has been cut.
Jones is breathing heavily.
Uzi clinches up against the cage.
Jones can't break the clinch.
Uzi gets through Jones's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Jones has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Uzi is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A left hand lands to the body for Uzi.
Uzi's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Uzi is looking to clinch but Jones is avoiding it.
Uzi tries to clinch up but Jones circles away and keeps his distance.
Uzi lands a left and a right that send Jones crashing to the mat, dazed. Uzi thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Uzi clinches with his opponent.
Uzi is pressed up against the cage. Jones has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Uzi down to the mat. Uzi avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Uzi tries to close the distance and clinch but Jones swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Uzi gets a clinch.
Uzi has the Thai clinch. He lands a big knee to the head that stumbles Jones - he's in trouble! Another big knee to the head from Uzi, and another! Jones is out on his feet - the ref jumps in to save him and ends the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Knees). Lasse Uzi!
