And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Junior Paulista!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Steve Smith and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vanvalkenburg shoots and misses
and Paulista counters with a stiff right hand.
Vanvalkenburg tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Paulista counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Vanvalkenburg avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Paulista wants to control from the top but Vanvalkenburg keeps moving.
Vanvalkenburg managing to control the position.
Paulista is looking to work some ground and pound but Vanvalkenburg has wrist control.
Vanvalkenburg is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Vanvalkenburg wants to sweep here but Paulista controlling him for the moment.
Vanvalkenburg utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Paulista wants to control from the top but Vanvalkenburg keeps moving.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We're going to have a standup here because Lance Vanvalkenburg wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Paulista looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Paulista is looking to take a break and control but Vanvalkenburg is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Vanvalkenburg is trying to maintain the position but Paulista is very close to passing his half guard.
Paulista thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Paulista seems to be working for a kimura but Vanvalkenburg defends the submission attempt.

Paulista looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Paulista is looking for a kimura but Vanvalkenburg is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Paulista to get the leverage.

Vanvalkenburg is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Paulista is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Vanvalkenburg is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
