PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Elijah Rock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gray Maynard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rock comes into the arena with Fire it up blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Russell Pearce and David Schapiro.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rock fails with the takedown

and Maynard counters with a shoot takedown. Rock fights it but they end up in guard.

Rock looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Maynard slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
It looks like Maynard might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Rock will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Gray Maynard has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Maynard tries a head kick but it misses.
Rock tries to clinch but Maynard moves out of range.

Maynard closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Rock's guard.

Rock had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Maynard defends it easily.

Maynard lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Rock has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Maynard can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Rock sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Maynard decides to stand up.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Maynard is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

A looping hook to the body misses from Rock. Maynard does a little dance to reset his feet.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Maynard stands up and beckons Rock to join him on the feet.

Maynard looks up at the clock and then as Rock takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Maynard smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Rock tries to bench press Maynard off him but Maynard keeps the position.

Rock throws a right hand that Maynard ducks under and follows up with a left that Maynard also avoids with ease.
Rock throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Elijah Rock is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Maynard misses with a hook. Rock ducked under it nicely.
Maynard will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Rock enables Maynard to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Rock manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Rock tries to clinch up but Maynard circles away and keeps his distance.
The fight stays on the outside here - Rock looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Maynard tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Rock manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Maynard chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Rock can pounce on him.

Maynard decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Rock, up you get!
Elijah Rock has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Maynard fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Rock sprawls well initially but Maynard persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Rock is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Maynard is nestled in close to Rock, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Rock flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Maynard is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
