PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mata Leon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nate Kirby (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Leon kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Bodies. Nate Kirby has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Leon goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Kirby throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Kirby throws a series of punches but Leon moves out of range.
Kirby closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
No joy there for Leon, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

and Leon counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Leon tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Leon knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kirby on the ground.

Kirby wants to break free but Leon has control.

Leon breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Leon misses with an attempted mid kick.
Kirby lands with an uppercut that bounces Leon off the ropes and back into rage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kirby takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Kirby's corner calls for a 1-2. Kirby obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

and Leon counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

and Leon holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Kirby looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Leon prevents a body shot from Kirby.
Kirby wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Leon has him pressed against the ropes.

Leon breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Leon scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Kirby doesn't seem bothered though.

and Leon decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kirby's guard.

Kirby working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Leon doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Leon manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Leon is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Kirby is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Kirby has escaped and now he's on top!
Leon is looking to stand up but Kirby isn't so interested in that idea.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Leon is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kirby defends well.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kirby postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

BOOM! Kirby connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Leon is rocked!
Kirby takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Oh Leon is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Leon takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Kirby's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
