PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Joshua Davison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Clark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Davison comes into the arena with just cant get enough blaring out of the sound system. The key to victory for Joshua Davison has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Joshua Davison!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, John Clark!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Ackerman and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davison misses with a combination

and Clark counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Clark must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Davison is looking to stand up but Clark isn't so interested in that idea.
Clark trying to control but Davison is working from the bottom.
Davison wants to get back to his feet but Clark is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Davison keeping moving, preventing Clark from controlling successfully.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. John Clark wasn't active enough on the ground.
Davison misses with a double jab

and Clark counters with a shoot takedown. Davison fights it but they end up in guard.
Clark stops Davison from standing up.

Clark drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Clark jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Davison wants to get back to his feet but Clark is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Clark is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Clark thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Clark gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Clark closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Davison did well to prevent Clark getting side control.

Clark is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Davison is just riding it out for now. Clark eventually gives up the hold.
Clark thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Davison's head.
Davison wants to get back to his feet.
Clark with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Davison looks like he's trying to stand up.
Clark content to control rather than advance.
Clark stops Davison from getting back to his feet.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Clark thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Davison's head.

Davison manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Clark shoots and misses
and Davison counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Davison is breathing heavily.

Davison gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Clark trying to control the position from guard on top but Davison is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Davison wants to stand and escape but Clark is having none of it.

Clark's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Davison wants to stand but Clark is controlling the position.
Clark postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Clark prevents Davison from getting back to his feet.
Clark stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Davison swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Davison falls off balance throwing a combination

so Clark counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Clark stops Davison from standing up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Clark stays in close to Davison's body and controls the position.
Clark content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Davison is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Clark wants to stand but Davison has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Davison is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Clark is controlling him.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Davison throws a combination that misses

and Clark counters with a nice double leg into side control. Davison won't be happy with that.

Clark is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Davison is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Clark prevents Davison from escaping the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Davison trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Clark creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Davison sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Clark throws an elbow but Davison slips to the side and avoids it well.

Davison is pushing Clark's head away, looking to escape. Clark manages to hold on to the position though.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Davison is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Clark asserts his dominance and retains side control.
John Clark has got the better of the ground game so far.
Clark tries to score with some ground and pound. Davison controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

John Clark showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Clark stands up and beckons Davison to his feet.
Davison clobbers Clark with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Davison throws a left and a right that both miss

and Clark decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Davison's guard.
Clark prevents Davison from getting back to his feet.
Clark stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Davison swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Clark seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Joshua Davison has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

John Clark is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Davison escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Clark gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

John Clark comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Clark winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
