Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alexandre Carlitos !
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Mauricio Rocha and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reis lands a head kick. Carlitos smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Reis moves into the clinch successfully.

Reis breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Reis lands with a straight right. Carlitos didn't see that one coming.

Reis closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Reis breaks the clinch.
Reis doesn't manage to clinch there - Carlitos circles away.
Carlitos misses with an uppercut
and Reis counters with a good low kick that Carlitos was not able to check.
Alexandre Carlitos seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Carlitos doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Reis counters with a slapping leg kick.
Reis is looking to clinch.
Carlitos misses with a combination

and Reis counters with a head kick that drops Carlitos !


Carlitos is rocked!

Carlitos has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Reis is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Carlitos .
Carlitos is still in real trouble! Can Reis finish him?

Carlitos seems to have recovered his senses.
Carlitos looking for a sweep. Not yet Carlitos , not yet.

Carlitos has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Reis can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Reis wants to get up but he can't break Carlitos 's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Carlitos manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Reis manages to get himself to full guard.
Carlitos advances to half guard.

Carlitos is looking for a kimura but Reis is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Carlitos to get the leverage.
Carlitos looks gassed!
Reis is trying to stand back up but Carlitos is controlling him
Reis trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Carlitos is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Carlitos stops Reis from getting back to his feet.

Carlitos seems to be working for a kimura but Reis defends the submission attempt.
Carlitos prevents Reis from improving his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Reis pushes Carlitos off and gets back to his feet.
Carlitos swings widly with a right hand

and Reis counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Reis breaks from the clinch.
Carlitos avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Carlitos throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Reis counters by moving into the clinch.
Reis scores with a knee to the head.

Reis breaks from the clinch.
Carlitos rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Reis moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

and Reis counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Reis.
Carlitos tries to pull guard but Reis holds him up against the cage and eventually Carlitos drops back down to his feet.
Carlitos is trying to break the clinch but Reis has him pressed against the cage.
Carlitos takes a knee right on the jaw!
Carlitos fails to pull guard.
Ricardo Reis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alexandre Carlitos .
Reis crunches a lovely knee into Carlitos 's ribcage.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Reis breaks the clinch.
Carlitos looks to land a combination but Reis avoids it well.
Reis throws a combination. Carlitos tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Reis clinches.
Reis lands a left hand that snaps the head of Carlitos backwards.
The is referee keeping an eye on Reis - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Reis lands a knee to the head.
Carlitos jumps guard but Reis stands there with Carlitos around his waist. Carlitos gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Reis breaks the clinch.
Whack! Reis lands a heavy head kick that drops Carlitos . The ref tackles Reis to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Carlitos was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:15 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Head Kick). Ricardo Reis!
