PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vladimir Arlovski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Feodore Sabre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Arlovski might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Machine Head-Now I Lay Thee Down. Vladimir Arlovski had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vladimir Arlovski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Feodore Sabre!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Tiny Johnson and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Arlovski tries to clinch but Sabre moves away

and Sabre counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Arlovski tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Sabre is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Sabre blocks a low kick nicely.
Arlovski tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Sabre counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Arlovski!
Arlovski is trying to escape the mount.

Arlovski wants to hold on but Sabre pushes him away.

Arlovski tries to lock up and control but Sabre gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Arlovski is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Vladimir Arlovski.
Arlovski tried to score with a low kick but Sabre checks it.

Arlovski throws a predictable looking body shot

and Sabre counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Arlovski tries to get to full guard but Sabre has control of the leg.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Arlovski is desperately trying to improve his position but Sabre has a good base and remains in mount.
Sabre takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Arlovski buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Vladimir Arlovski just wasn't active enough.
No joy there for Arlovski, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Sabre stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Arlovski swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Arlovski tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Sabre wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Sabre tries to move to mount but Arlovski blocks the move with his legs.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Arlovski misses with a jab, cross combination.
Sabre looks for a takedown but Arlovski sprawls well.
Sabre uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Arlovski.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Arlovski tries to clinch but Sabre moves away

and Sabre counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Arlovski manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Sabre is stalling in the full guard.
Arlovski looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Feodore Sabre showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Arlovski throws a combination that misses

and Sabre counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Arlovski seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Sabre looking to pass the guard.

Vladimir Arlovski has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Arlovski throws a leg kick but Sabre checks it.
Arlovski misses with a few strikes there.
Arlovski fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Sabre looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Arlovski tries to clinch up.
Sabre shoots in looking for a takedown. Arlovski tries to sprawl out of it but Sabre keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Arlovski manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Sabre shoots in for a double leg but Arlovski sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Arlovski throws a shot from downtown. Sabre moves away and avoids it.
Arlovski misses the body punch

and Sabre counters with a shoot takedown. Arlovski fights it but they end up in guard.
Arlovski wants to sweep here but Sabre controlling him for the moment.

Sabre's corner is telling him to maintain position.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Feodore Sabre was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Arlovski jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Arlovski misses with a low kick as Sabre jumps back.
Arlovski throws a hook but Sabre blocks it.
Sabre blocks a low kick nicely.
Arlovski lands a right hook to the body.
Arlovski throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Sabre stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Sabre takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Arlovski tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Arlovski throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Sabre sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Arlovski throws a leg kick which misses Sabre's front leg but catches the back leg as Sabre tries to avoid it.
Sabre avoids a punch combination nicely.
Arlovski cracks the inside of Sabre's front leg.
Sabre keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Sabre tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Arlovski is looking to clinch but Sabre is avoiding it.
Vladimir Arlovski seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sabre takes one on the button.
Arlovski tries to clinch there but Sabre circles away.
Arlovski throws a nice looking combination but Sabre bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Arlovski throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Vladimir Arlovski is winning the standup battle so far.
Arlovski tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Sabre manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Arlovski lands a slapping body shot.
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Arlovski tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Arlovski throws a low kick, looking for Sabre's leg but Sabre calmly moves out of range.

And that's the end of the fight!
Vladimir Arlovski showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Sabre has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
