PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Garth Fourie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sarel Labuschagne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Sarel Labuschagne was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Garth Fourie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Sarel Labuschagne!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Sam Margolis and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Labuschagne scores with a hook.
Fourie walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Labuschagne checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Labuschagne stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Labuschagne wants it to stay on the feet.
The fighters circle momentarily. Labuschagne darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Fourie shoots in and drives through. Labuschagne sprawls well.
Labuschagne tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Fourie was well out of range. Poor timing from Labuschagne.
Labuschagne blocks a jab.
Fourie falls off balance throwing a combination
and Labuschagne counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Fourie misses with a head kick.
Labuschagne lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Labuschagne lands a jab to the head.

Labuschagne takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Labuschagne swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Fourie misses with a straight left.
Labuschagne scores with a body shot.
Horrible takedown by Labuschagne or perhaps it was just good defense by Fourie which made him look bad.
Labuschagne closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Labuschagne misses with a double jab.

Fourie forces Labuschagne back against the cage and clinches.
Labuschagne tries for a takedown. No joy.

Fourie manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Fourie has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Labuschagne off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Fourie will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Fourie misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Labuschagne.

Fourie takes the fight into the clinch.

Fourie pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Fourie tries a head kick but it misses.
Fourie tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Labuschagne swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Garth Fourie. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fourie avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Nice defenses there by Labuschagne.
Labuschagne misses with a two punch combination.
Fourie uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Labuschagne.
Garth Fourie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Labuschagne scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Fourie.
Labuschagne misses with a body kick.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Fourie throws a nice inside leg kick.
Labuschagne gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
enabling Fourie to counter with a crisp jab.

Fourie gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Fourie has clasped his hands together around Labuschagne's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Fourie in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fourie throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Labuschagne prevents Fourie from improving position.

Labuschagne tries to clinch
letting Fourie counter with a right hand.
Fourie thows a body shot but no joy.

Fourie darts in and clinches Labuschagne up against the cage.
Fourie jumps guard but Labuschagne stands there with Fourie around his waist. Fourie gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Fourie pulls Labuschagne into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fourie controls Labuschagne momentarily but Labuschagne frees himself.
Fourie looking to hit a scissor sweep but Labuschagne is one step ahead there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fourie is working hard here to advance position.
Labuschagne being controlled here momentarily.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Garth Fourie wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Labuschagne slips under a jab.
Fourie tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Good exchange - Labuschagne coming out on top.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Fourie misses with a combination
and Labuschagne cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Labuschagne gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Labuschagne has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Fourie doesn't defend quickly enough and Labuschagne has managed to lock this one up! Can Fourie escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Labuschagne on a fantastic submission victory.
