The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fertit gets a clinch.
Kooch wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Kooch looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Fertit has Kooch pressed against the cage, preventing Kooch from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Fertit is looking for a kimura but Kooch is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Fertit to get the leverage.

Fertit wants to work for an arm triangle but Kooch is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fertit stops Kooch from getting back to his feet.

and Fertit counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kooch won't be happy with that.
Kooch has one of Fertit's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.
Kooch takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Kooch stops Fertit from passing to mount.
You can see the frustration on Kooch's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Fertit has knee on belly momentarily but Kooch bucks him off and regains half guard.

Fertit is working for a kimura but Kooch is defending it quite comfortably.

Fertit is stalling here. Kooch is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Fertit seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Kooch has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Fertit wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kooch, who protects the arm well.
Kooch regains half guard there - taking advantage of Fertit's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

Dante Fertit showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
