PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Clifton P (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Morgan Freeman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). P comes into the arena with Who Next blaring out of the sound system. Morgan Freeman is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Clifton P!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of New York, Morgan Freeman!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Anthony Taglia and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Freeman stuffs the takedown.
Freeman looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Freeman doesn't succeed with the takedown
and P counters with a lovely straight right hand!

P shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Freeman's guard.
P wants to control from the top but Freeman keeps moving.
P trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Freeman keeping moving, preventing P from controlling successfully.

Freeman looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

P gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
P tries a head kick but it misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.

P changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Freeman looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
P throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Freeman strikes from the bottom but P takes advantage and advances to full mount!
Freeman is trying to stand.
P has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Freeman is squirming around, avoiding P's attempts to control the action.
Freeman tries to hold on but P postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
P trying to control but he's not successful this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
P throws a strike there. Freeman manages to avoid it well and slips a leg under to get to half guard.
P tries to stand but can't do so whilst Freeman controls his leg.
The fighters are battling for position here. Freeman manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
P controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
P forces his way into half guard.
P perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Freeman won't allow P to pass to mount.
P not landing any meaningful shots this time.
P not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

P escapes and gets back to his feet.
P will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Freeman closes the distance and clinches.

P breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

P closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Freeman wants to control but P postures up.
P wants to control for a moment but Freeman uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
P is staying active underneath Freeman, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

P looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
P wants to control but Freeman is keeping busy and won't allow it.
P is trying to control but Freeman passes into side control!
P tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Freeman wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
P ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
P darts in trying to clinch
and Freeman counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Clifton P dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Nice sprawl there from Freeman as P shoots in.

P looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
P trying to control but Freeman is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
P wants to stand but Freeman has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

P is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Freeman is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Freeman has escaped and now he's on top!
Freeman slips nicely into half guard.

P is trying to control but Freeman manages to pass to mount!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Freeman tries to control but P wriggling away.
P is bucking up trying to escape but Freeman cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
P regains half guard.
Freeman wants to lay and pray for a moment but P keeps working.
P is positioning himself well to prevent Freeman advancing to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Freeman stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Freeman looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
P looking for a sweep. Not yet P, not yet.
P wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Freeman manages to pass to side control.
Freeman perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
P is positioning himself well to prevent Freeman advancing to mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
P works his way to full guard. Good work.
Freeman won't allow P to get back to his feet.
P looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Freeman tries to stand but P is controlling from the bottom.

P has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Freeman can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
P is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Freeman is controlling him.

P escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Freeman gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Freeman is looking to stand up but P won't let him.
Freeman won't allow P to sweep him here.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Freeman has closed the distance and engaged P in a clinch.
P tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Freeman smiles and moves away.
P misses with a takedown

and Freeman counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Freeman.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Clifton P. That's going to take a lot out of him.
P is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Freeman is standing up over P. P looks to escape but Freeman dives into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Morgan Freeman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



P gets caught flat footed, as Freeman shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
P throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
P looking to hit a scissor sweep but Freeman is one step ahead there.
P is looking to stand up but Freeman isn't so interested in that idea.
P bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Freeman's guard.

P gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

P shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Freeman's guard.
Freeman takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

P scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
P tries to free his leg and advance position but Freeman is retaining full guard.
P throwing strikes from guard but Freeman blocks nicely.
P throws and elbow that misses. Freeman uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in P's guard. Nice move by Freeman!
P keeping moving, preventing Freeman from controlling successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
P is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
P wants to hit a switch here but Freeman passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for P there!
Freeman avoids the attempt from P to control.
Feeble punches landing from P - he's mounted - they can't hurt.
Poor strikes thrown by Freeman there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
P flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
P is looking to get to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
P tries to lock up and control but Freeman gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
P holds on for dear life, controlling Freeman's posture momentarily.
P is trying to escape the mount.
P bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
P has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Freeman is proving hard to escape from.
Freeman keeping moving, preventing P from controlling successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Freeman is looking for a triangle but P pushes his legs off easily.
Freeman is trying to control the position from the bottom.
P preventing the sweep.
P trying to control the position from guard on top but Freeman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Freeman is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Clifton P showed his dominance in that final round.
I think P has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
