PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Erik Cumblood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Hattingh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Erik Cumblood!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, George Hattingh!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Tarja Halkonen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice defenses there by Cumblood.
Cumblood tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Hattingh misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Cumblood.

Cumblood clinches.
Hattingh has had enough of the clinch but Cumblood keeps him there for the moment.
Cumblood being controlled against the cage.
Cumblood is trying to drag Hattingh to the mat but Hattingh just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Cumblood drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Hattingh gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Cumblood is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Hattingh pulls him back up using the underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Erik Cumblood. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hattingh's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
A slow jab from Hattingh misses its intended target.
Hattingh throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Hattingh thows a body shot but no joy.

Hattingh looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Hattingh is thwarting Cumblood's attempts to control the position.
Hattingh thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Cumblood's head.
Hattingh wants to stand up but Cumblood has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Cumblood makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Cumblood drops his hands momentarily and Hattingh takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Hattingh connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Cumblood's hands.
Hattingh fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Cumblood looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hattingh throws a shot to the body.
Cumblood is breathing heavily.
Hattingh cracks Cumblood with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.


It looks like Erik Cumblood has been cut.
George Hattingh seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hattingh cracks a nice hook into Cumblood's ribs.
Hattingh jabs Cumblood to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Hattingh fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Cumblood manages to avoid it.
Hattingh throws a sloppy head kick and Cumblood moves out of range easily.

Hattingh looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Hattingh wants to control from the top but Cumblood keeps moving.
Hattingh must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Cumblood wants to sweep but no luck.
Hattingh pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Cumblood is keeping the position for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hattingh slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Hattingh trying to control the position from guard on top but Cumblood is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. George Hattingh wasn't active enough on the ground.
Hattingh moves out of range of the body kick from Cumblood.

Cumblood clinches up against the cage.

Hattingh breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Cumblood takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Hattingh cracks a nice hook into Cumblood's ribs.
Cumblood walks into a left hand.
Hattingh fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cumblood tries for a takedown but Hattingh sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Hattingh lands a left and a right that send Cumblood crashing to the mat, dazed. Hattingh thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Cumblood is rocked!
Hattingh lands hard precision jab right on the jaw that stiffens Cumblood up and sends him tumbling to the mat! The ref grabs Hattingh from behind before he can pounce. Some folks in the crowd didn't like that stoppage, but I saw Cumblood's eyes roll way back in his head, he was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:17 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). George Hattingh!
