Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Roberto Balado!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Miguel Leite!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Emerson Jorge and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Leite works over Balado's head and body with a nice combination.


It looks like Roberto Balado has been cut.
Leite swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Balado counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Balado tries to break free but Leite pushes him back against the cage.

Leite breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Leite throws a left and a right that both miss

and Balado counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Balado.
Balado trying to control but Leite is working from the bottom.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Balado pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Leite is keeping the position for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Roberto Balado.

Balado stalling away here and it's allowed Leite to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Balado is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Balado thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Leite is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Balado wants to control the pace but Leite is squirming around nicely.
Leite really wants to buck Balado off and get back to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Balado tries to get up but Leite was controlling his body and he's reversed into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Roberto Balado will probably get the nod.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.

Balado could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Balado postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Leite is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Balado, into his guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Leite would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Balado tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Leite gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Balado dodges the punch combination from Leite.

and Balado counters with a nice double leg into side control. Leite won't be happy with that.
Balado wants to control but Leite is keeping him busy.

Leite manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Leite defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Balado.
Leite lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Balado circles away quickly and effectively.

Leite wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Balado manages to pass to side control.

Balado is looking for a kimura but Leite is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Balado to get the leverage.

Balado is stalling here. Leite is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Balado seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Leite has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Balado is looking to reverse the position.

Leite decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Leite tries to bum rush Balado with a series of wild strikes but Balado uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Balado looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Leite throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Balado.
Leite misses with a combination
and Balado counters with a nice body shot.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Leite decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Balado, up you get!

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Balado shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Leite as he jumps to the side.
Leite will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Balado, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
