Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jose De Souza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Takanori Gomi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Takanori Gomi will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jose De Souza!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Takanori Gomi!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Andrew Berry and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gomi throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Gomi rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but De Souza moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Gomi displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Gomi scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
De Souza tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Gomi swivels and escapes.

and Gomi counters with a series of strikes. De Souza will be more careful next time no doubt.
Gomi lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
De Souza shoots and misses
and Gomi counters with a big head kick but De Souza shrugs it off.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

De Souza stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Gomi.

Gomi throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

and Gomi counters with a low kick, right behind De Souza 's knee.

De Souza shoots in and bounces Gomi off the ropes to secure the takedown into guard.
De Souza in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Gomi really doesn't want to stay on the ground with De Souza. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

De Souza drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and De Souza jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
De Souza wants to control from the top but Gomi keeps moving.
Gomi wants to sweep here but De Souza controlling him for the moment.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
De Souza forces his way into half guard.
De Souza is nestled in close to Gomi, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

De Souza is looking for a kimura here.
De Souza seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
De Souza passes the guard and advances to mount!
De Souza is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Gomi can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gomi can do anything to dispel that myth.

De Souza has his opponent pinned against the ropes, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Gomi's face.

De Souza is working for a guillotine from mount but Gomi frees his head quite easily.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
De Souza can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Gomi is looking to escape.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
De Souza is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Gomi is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

De Souza is working for a guillotine from mount but Gomi frees his head quite easily.
De Souza fails to advance to Gomi's back.
De Souza connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
De Souza lands a heavy elbow.
De Souza throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Gomi because De Souza loaded up on that one.
Gomi tries to hold on but De Souza pushes him away.
De Souza can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Gomi is looking to escape.
De Souza scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Gomi?
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gomi is looking to improve his position but De Souza isn't that keen on the idea.
Gomi tries to lock up and control but De Souza gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Takanori Gomi will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

De Souza stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gomi swivels though and keeps the full guard.

De Souza has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
De Souza controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

De Souza controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Jose De Souza has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Gomi swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Gomi scores with a hook to the body. De Souza takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Takanori Gomi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
