These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
William pushes Alves away with a front kick.
William throws a low kick but it's checked well by Alves.
Alves misses with a kick to the body
and William counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
William checks a low kick from Alves.
William throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Alves.
William avoids the head kick by Alves.
A looping hook to the body misses from William. Alves does a little dance to reset his feet.
William misses with a series of wild punches.
Alves looks for the body kick but William saw that one coming.
Alves scores with a kick to the midsection.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
William checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
William lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Alves walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. William checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

and William counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Alves throws a leg kick that misses.
William looks to throw the jab but Alves is out of range.
Willis William is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
William looks to land a right hand but Alves moved out of range.
William connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Alves ducks right into an uppercut from William.
Alves swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
William scores with a body shot.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Alves.
Alves will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Alves takes a kick to the side of the head.
William checks a low kick from Alves.
William swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Alves has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from William finds it's way round the side to connect with Alves's head.
A clash of legs there as William blocks the low kick.
The fighters circling - William throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Alves throws a leg kick
and William counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Alves thinking.
William misses with a straight left.

Goncalo Alves seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice shot lands for William.
Alves throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Alves is looking to land body kicks.

Oooooh!!! William has knocked Alves down with a huge combo! William steps away and waves a wobbly Alves back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
