PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mike Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vladimir Sanofskij (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Williams comes to the ring accompanied by Bad Company by Five Finger Death Punch. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mike Williams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vladimir Sanofskij!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Konstantin Menshow and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Williams tries to close the distance and clinch but Sanofskij swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Mike Williams seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Williams feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Williams is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Williams passes Sanofskij's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Williams wants to control but Sanofskij is keeping him busy.

Williams looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Sanofskij wants to control but Williams is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Williams slows the pace down in half guard.
Williams tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Sanofskij.

Williams decides to stand and escape the position.
Williams tries for a takedown but Sanofskij circles away easily

and Sanofskij counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Sanofskij looking to sit in guard and control but Williams gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Williams throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Sanofskij works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Williams postures up in Sanofskij's guard and throws a big left but Sanofskij blocks it.

Williams lands a couple of elbows.
Sanofskij looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Williams puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Still in half guard, Williams seems content to control.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Williams is thwarting Sanofskij's attempts to control the position.

Williams seems to be working for a kimura but Sanofskij defends the submission attempt.
Williams is trying to control the action in half guard but Sanofskij is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Sanofskij is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Williams is trying to work for a kimura but Sanofskij is defending well.

It looks like Williams is going to stand back up.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Williams drives through with a takedown into guard.
Williams trying to control but Sanofskij is working from the bottom.
Williams slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Sanofskij is refusing to be controlled, as Williams sits in half guard.

Mike Williams has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Williams doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Sanofskij counters with a takedown into side control.
Williams regains half guard there - taking advantage of Sanofskij's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Sanofskij throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Williams is trying to maintain the position but Sanofskij is very close to passing his half guard.

Sanofskij working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Williams moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Williams trying to keep a closed guard but Sanofskij is proving a slippery customer.
Sanofskij lands a couple of digs.
Sanofskij with a flurry of punches that miss.
Sanofskij keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Williams's head.

Sanofskij with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Sanofskij content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Sanofskij lands a couple of digs.
Williams bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sanofskij's guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sanofskij can do anything to dispel that myth.
Williams in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Williams passes into half guard.
Mike Williams overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Sanofskij wants to control but Williams is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Sanofskij is controlling Williams's trapped leg to prevent Williams from advancing to side control.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Williams has his takedown stuffed

and Sanofskij counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Williams!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vladimir Sanofskij showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Sanofskij gets a takedown into half guard.
Sanofskij is just content to waste time from the top position. Williams takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Sanofskij stands up over Williams, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Sanofskij is looking to stand up but Williams won't let him.

Sanofskij has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Williams to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Sanofskij is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Williams pulls down on the head and he's put Sanofskij to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:05 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Mike Williams!
