Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Daniel Kenchevski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jon Tharis!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Hugh Johnson and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tharis lands with a good body shot.
Tharis misses with a telegraphed body shot

and Kenchevski counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Tharis's guard now.

Kenchevski has gone for a leg lock! Tharis slips out almost immediately though and dives into Kenchevski's guard.

Tharis gets to his feet - Kenchevski follows without any prompting.
Tharis throws a right and a left that both miss.
Tharis connects with a leg kick. Kenchevski looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Tharis throws a leg kick which misses Kenchevski's front leg but catches the back leg as Kenchevski tries to avoid it.

Tharis connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Tharis moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

and Kenchevski counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Tharis!

Kenchevski jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Tharis is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Tharis and Kenchevski has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Tharis is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Kenchevski off and has taken his back!
Tharis has the hooks in. Kenchevski is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jon Tharis was stalling too much, according to the referee.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

and Tharis cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Donk. Tharis catches Kenchevski right on the button with a cross.
Tharis looks to score with a jab to the body but Kenchevski is just out of range.

and Kenchevski takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Tharis lands with a shot to the body.

We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Tharis in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off.

A looping hook to the body misses from Tharis. Kenchevski does a little dance to reset his feet.

Tharis had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kenchevski defends it easily.

Kenchevski has had enough of the clinch but Tharis keeps him there for the moment.

Kenchevski shoots for a double leg takedown but Tharis sprawls well. He's pushed Kenchevski's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Tharis lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Kenchevski walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Jon Tharis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kenchevski is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

Kenchevski takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Tharis lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Kenchevski looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
Tharis uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Tharis tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kenchevski was well out of range. Poor timing from Tharis.
