Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Oleg Karev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Uolevi Kaipainen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kaipainen has chosen Fredi - Puhu hiljaa rakkaudesta as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Oleg Karev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Uolevi Kaipainen!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Sam Margolis and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kaipainen throws a series of punches but Karev avoids them all with ease.
Karev throws a head kick but Kaipainen moves out of range.
Kaipainen throws a looping overhand right but Karev ducks down to avoid it.
Karev lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kaipainen circles away quickly and effectively.
Karev tries to clinch up but Kaipainen circles away and keeps his distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Karev throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.


It looks like Uolevi Kaipainen has been cut.
Karev misses the body punch
and Kaipainen counters with a stiff right hand.

Karev finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Karev misses with a body kick.
Kaipainen avoids the body shot from Karev.
Kaipainen ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Karev moves away.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

and Kaipainen counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Oleg Karev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kaipainen scores with a jab to the jaw.

Kaipainen throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Good work by Kaipainen as he checks the leg kick.
Karev throws a leg kick but Kaipainen moved away.
Kaipainen chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Karev can pounce on him.
Karev moves away from the strike by Kaipainen.
Kaipainen uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Karev.
Karev throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Karev swings away with a leg kick that misses.

Karev looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Karev throws a right and a left that Kaipainen avoids nicely.

and Karev makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Karev lands with a thumping leg kick.
Karev throws a sloppy head kick and Kaipainen moves out of range easily.
Kaipainen misses with a right hand

and Karev counters with a head kick that drops Kaipainen to the mat! Kaipainen scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!


Kaipainen is rocked!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Karev throws a leg kick but Kaipainen checks it.

Kaipainen throws a lazy uppercut
and Karev counters with an inside leg kick.
Karev misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Kaipainen avoids the head kick by Karev.
Kaipainen displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Karev throws out the jab.
A bone on bone clash there as Kaipainen blocks the leg kick.
Kaipainen takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Kaipainen throws a series of punches but Karev moves out of range.
Kaipainen might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Karev throws a leg kick that misses.
Karev uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Kaipainen.
Kaipainen throws a shot from downtown. Karev moves away and avoids it.
A looping hook to the body misses from Karev. Kaipainen does a little dance to reset his feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kaipainen ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Karev moves away.
Karev misses with a low kick.
Kaipainen misses with a jab, cross combination.
Kaipainen looks to land a left hand but Karev moved out of range nicely.
Uolevi Kaipainen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Karev uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Kaipainen.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Karev throws a nice looking combination but Kaipainen bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Karev takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Karev lands a slapping body shot.
Karev throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kaipainen.
Karev lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kaipainen circles away quickly and effectively.

letting Kaipainen counter with a right hand.

enabling Kaipainen to counter with a crisp jab.
Kaipainen throws a series of punches but Karev moves out of range.
Kaipainen takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Karev is looking to wear down Kaipainen with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Kaipainen works the jab nicely.
Karev throws a lazy head kick
and Kaipainen connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Karev thumps Kaipainen with a low kick.
Karev swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Kaipainen counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Karev takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Oleg Karev is winning the standup battle so far.
Karev misses with a head kick.
Karev tries a head kick but it misses.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
No joy there for Kaipainen, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Kaipainen stalks Karev and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Karev's face. Karev staggers backwards, shaken.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Karev here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
A shot to the body from Karev misses
and Kaipainen counters with a three punch combo that has Karev backing up. Karev nods at Kaipainen to acknowledge the strikes.
Karev will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Karev misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Karev does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Kaipainen swings widly with a right hand
and Karev counters with a nice leg kick.
Karev lands the left hand.
Karev keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Kaipainen.
Karev throws a low kick but Kaipainen avoids it.
Uolevi Kaipainen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Karev tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kaipainen swats him away and circles back towards the center.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Oleg Karev.
Well Karev has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
