PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between David Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ray Gunn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Miller comes to the cage accompanied by On to the Next One. Gunn has chosen England belongs to me as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, David Miller!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 10 - 1, fighting out of London, Ray Gunn!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Andrew Berry and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miller jabs at Gunn's body.
Gunn throws a leg kick which misses Miller's front leg but catches the back leg as Miller tries to avoid it.
Miller misses with a kick to the body.
Gunn tries a head kick but it misses.
Gunn throws a nice head kick!
Miller ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gunn moves away.
Miller doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Gunn counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Miller shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gunn but Gunn pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Gunn connects with an inside leg kick.

Miller drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Gunn avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Miller.

Miller throws a strike aimed at the side of Gunn's head but Gunn avoids it well.
Miller has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Miller creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Gunn sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
You can see the frustration on Gunn's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Miller in side control lands a decent elbow.
Gunn wants to get back to his feet but Miller drags him back down.

Miller wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gunn, who protects the arm well.
Gunn isn't going anywhere.
Miller in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Miller thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Miller is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Gunn is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Gunn can't do much from the bottom here.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Miller tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Miller has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Gunn wants to control but Miller postures up.

Gunn is trying to improve his position.
Miller in side control, throwing shots but Gunn defends.
Miller wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gunn keeps working.

Gunn is refusing to be controlled, as Miller sits in half guard.

Miller is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Gunn doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Miller.

Miller is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gunn is trying to maintain the position but Miller is very close to passing his half guard.
Gunn is refusing to be controlled, as Miller sits in half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Miller dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Gunn throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Miller's head.
Miller takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Miller closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Gunn quickly recovers to half guard.

Miller is looking for a kimura but Gunn is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Miller to get the leverage.

Gunn is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Gunn tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Miller is working for a submission of some sort.

Miller is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Gunn sees it coming and defends easily.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Miller lands a nice short elbow.
Miller winds up and cracks Gunn with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Gunn is looking for a sweep. Miller is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Miller seems to be working for a kimura but Gunn defends the submission attempt.

Miller looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Miller is working for a kimura but Gunn is defending it quite comfortably.
Miller throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Gunn is defending against the submission attempts here by Miller.
Miller is stalling here. Gunn is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Miller seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Gunn has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Gunn is looking to take a break and control but Miller is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
David Miller overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Gunn has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Miller changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gunn tries to avoid it but Miller manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gunn to the ground. Gunn escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

No luck for Miller with that takedown attempt.
Ray Gunn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gunn with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Miller takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Gunn lands with a kick to the temple. Miller shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Ray Gunn is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Gunn.
A slapping leg kick lands for Gunn.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Gunn throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Miller dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Miller fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Gunn throws a shot to the body.
Miller fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Some bone on bone action there as Miller checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Gunn sizes up Miller with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Gunn leaves Miller with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Miller. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gunn fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Miller takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Miller has his takedown stuffed
and Gunn counters with a nice low kick that buckles Miller's knee momentarily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Gunn explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

Miller takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Gunn connects with an inside leg kick.

Gunn feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Miller's calf.
Miller has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Gunn.
Gunn tries a head kick but it misses.
Gunn connects with a leg kick. Miller looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gunn dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Miller. That did some damage!

Gunn lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Miller has a takedown stuffed.
Miller on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Gunn. Gunn obviously looking to wear him down.
Gunn scores with a head kick. Miller tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Gunn thuds a left hand into Miller's body.
Gunn connects with a solid leg kick.
Miller fails with a takedown attempt.
Miller shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Gunn sprawls well. Gunn wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Miller gets slowly back to his feet.

Miller shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Gunn as he jumps to the side.
Gunn scores with a sloppy right hand. Miller should have avoided that one.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gunn throws a head kick that Miller semi-blocks.
Nice body kick there by Gunn.
Gunn connects with a leg kick. Miller looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ray Gunn comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Miller has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
