PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Leon Spyridon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marko Barrera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Marko Barrera was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Leon Spyridon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Marko Barrera!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Valeri Chadov and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spyridon uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Barrera.

Spyridon closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Spyridon jumps guard and drags Barrera to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Spyridon is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Barrera doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Spyridon.
Spyridon seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Spyridon is looking to take a break and control but Barrera is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Barrera throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and Spyridon manages to pass to side control.

Barrera is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Barrera might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Spyridon kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Barrera is trying to stand but he's just given Spyridon his back.
Spyridon slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Spyridon's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Barrera is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Spyridon off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Leon Spyridon.
Barrera throws a right hand that Spyridon ducks under and follows up with a left that Spyridon also avoids with ease.

Barrera catches Spyridon with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Spyridon shoots for a double leg takedown but Barrera sprawls well. He's pushed Spyridon's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Barrera lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.


It looks like Leon Spyridon has been cut.

Barrera feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Spyridons jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

I think Barrera has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
