The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hughes lands a jab.
Hughes closes the distance but Hennessy moves to the side

and Hennessy decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Hughes's guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Hennessy is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Hughes can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Hughes has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.

Hennessy punishes Hughes with strikes from the back mount.

Hughes is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Hennessy is throwing strikes by Hughes counters by rolling into a better position. After a scramble, Hughes regains half guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Hennessy tries to pass the half guard into mount. Hughes knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Hennessy uses his free foot to push down on Hughes's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Hughes.

Hennessy throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Hennessy's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Hughes connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

and Hennessy counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Hughes scores with a nice right hand.
Ryan Hughes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hughes tries to clinch but fails miserably
enabling Hennessy to counter with a crisp jab.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Hennessy.
Hennessy throws a hook to the side of Hughes's head but Hughes sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

and Hughes takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Hughes takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

Jeez, Ryan Hughes's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

and Hennessy counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Ryan Hughes's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
