Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mimura Kawaguchi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Baron Kabam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mimura Kawaguchi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Baron Kabam!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Steve Erwin and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kabam misses with a takedown
and Kabam takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Kabam throws a head kick that Kawaguchi semi-blocks.
Kabam moves in looking to clinch but Kawaguchi pushes him off.

so Kawaguchi counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Kawaguchi wants to control from the top but Kabam keeps moving.
Kawaguchi has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Kawaguchi passes Kabam's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kawaguchi is taking a breather. Kabam says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kabam is looking to improve his position.

Kawaguchi thows a huge punch but Kabam dodges it nicely.
Kabam is looking for a sweep. Kawaguchi is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Kawaguchi lands a nice short elbow.
Kawaguchi knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kabam on the ground.
Kawaguchi wants to pass to mount but Kabam is defending the position.

Kawaguchi looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Kabam wants to control but Kawaguchi is keeping busy.
Kawaguchi trying to advance position but Kabam counters by regaining guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Kabam throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Kabam keeping moving, preventing Kawaguchi from controlling successfully.
Kawaguchi throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Kabam is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Kabam keeping full guard, as Kawaguchi tries to pass.
Kawaguchi sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Kawaguchi in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Kabam keeping moving, preventing Kawaguchi from controlling successfully.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Kawaguchi thows a big elbow that misses.
Kawaguchi is looking to advance position but Kabam has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Kawaguchi wants to hold on but Kabam pushes him away.
Kabam looking to control and managing it successfully.
Kawaguchi keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Kabam trying to control but Kawaguchi is having none of it.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Kawaguchi is working to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mimura Kawaguchi dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Kawaguchi explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Kabam fails with an attempt to clinch.
Kabam fails with the takedown
and Kawaguchi counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Kabam takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Baron Kabam seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Kawaguchi decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kabam's guard.
Kabam controls Kawaguchi momentarily but Kawaguchi frees himself.
Kawaguchi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kabam swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kabam is breathing heavily.
Kawaguchi trying to control the position from guard on top but Kabam is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kabam can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kawaguchi controls the pace.
Kawaguchi is pushing down on Kabam's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kabam is fighting to maintain full guard but Kawaguchi has managed to sneak the leg through.
Kawaguchi has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Kawaguchi landing strikes from the mount and Kabam is in trouble!
Kawaguchi cracks Kabam with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Kawaguchi is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Kabam is surviving well by controlling Kawaguchi's body position as best he can.
Kabam is in all sorts of trouble here.
Kawaguchi looking to control but Kabam is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kabam takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Kawaguchi scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Kawaguchi in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kawaguchi takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The referee warns Kabam that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Kawaguchi tries to control but Kabam wriggling away.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kawaguchi raining down hammerfists from mount.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Kawaguchi cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!


Kabam is rocked!
Mimura Kawaguchi overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Kabam takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Kawaguchi's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mimura Kawaguchi!
