Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Vinny Russo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Martin Cristos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cristos is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Cypress Hill - Hand on the Pump. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vinny Russo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Martin Cristos!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Chris Downing and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Russo swinging wildly here.
Cristos thows a body shot but no joy.
Russo fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Cristos looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cristos misses with the combination.

Russo doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Cristos counters with an inside leg kick.
Russo smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Cristos throws a low kick but Russo moves out of range easily.

Cristos throws a sloppy head kick and Russo moves out of range easily.
Russo takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Russo lands a nice hook to Cristos's body. Cristos takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Cristos throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

Russo closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Russo lands in his opponent's guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Vinny Russo will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Cristos presses Russo against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.

Cristos blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Russo throws a punch but it's blocked by Cristos.
Russo swings away with an uppercut that misses.

and Russo counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Cristos is trying to maintain the position but Russo is very close to passing his half guard.
Cristos moves into full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Russo wants to control from the top but Cristos keeps moving.

Cristos working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Russo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Russo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Russo with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Cristos escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Russo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Cristos wants to stand and escape but Russo is having none of it.

Cristos looking for a guillotine here but Russo defends easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Martin Cristos will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

and Cristos counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Cristos throws a leg kick but Russo checks it.

Cristos connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Russo darts in and clinches Cristos up against the cage.

Cristos goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Russo tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Cristos tries to land knees in the clinch but Russo avoids the damage to the body.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Russo tries to pull guard but Cristos holds him up against the cage and eventually Russo drops back down to his feet.

Cristos is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Martin Cristos comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Cristos has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
