Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bas Rutten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Randall Austin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Austin is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Fort Minor - Remember the name. Randall Austin has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bas Rutten!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Randall Austin!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Columbo Gatti and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rutten misses with a few strikes there.
A combination from Rutten does no damage.
Rutten looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Rutten drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Rutten trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Rutten controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Austin is pulling down on Rutten's head. It's preventing any offense from Rutten, at least for the moment.
Rutten pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Austin is keeping the position for now.
Rutten passes Austin's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Austin won't allow Rutten to pass to mount.
Rutten controlling the pace.
Rutten wants to pass to mount but Austin is defending the position.

Rutten is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Rutten trying to pass the guard but Austin defending well.
Rutten seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Austin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Austin is trying to control but can't.
Rutten keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Austin wants to get back to full guard.
Rutten trying to control from half guard but Austin is working away.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Bas Rutten wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Rutten scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Austin doesn't seem bothered though.
Rutten swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Austin counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Austin defending well as Rutten loads up on a big left hand.
Austin dives in and grabs Rutten's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rutten pushes down on Austin's head and hops out.
Rutten throws a right and a left that both miss.
Rutten's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Rutten duly obliges.
Rutten throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Austin lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Rutten misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Austin takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Austin fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Rutten.
Rutten tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Austin swivels and escapes.
Rutten is breathing heavily.
Rutten dodges the punch combination from Austin.
Rutten misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Austin throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Austin lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Austin jabs at Rutten's body.
Austin looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Austin misses with a wild combination.
Rutten throws a left and a right that both miss
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
and Austin counters with a big head kick but Rutten shrugs it off.
Rutten takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Austin plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Austin jabs Rutten right on the nose. Rutten blinks but takes it well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Austin pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Rutten swings for the body but Austin moves out of range.
Austin tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Rutten misses with a double jab
and Austin makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Austin throws a head kick that misses.

Rutten throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Austin was covering up waiting for the punch and Rutten finishes the takedown easily into guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Austin is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Rutten trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Randall Austin dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Rutten fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Rutten takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Rutten paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Austin throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Rutten counters with a nice double leg into side control. Austin won't be happy with that.
Rutten trying to control the action but Austin is working from the bottom.

Rutten is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Austin has escaped the position, nice work there.

Rutten working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Rutten wants to lay and pray for a moment but Austin keeps working.
Austin tries to buck Rutten off but Rutten is having none of it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Austin sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Rutten trying to mount his opponent but Austin defends it.
Austin wants to get back to full guard.
Austin trying to hold on to Rutten's head to control him but Rutten postures up.
Austin is staying active underneath Rutten, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Rutten wants to pass the guard but Austin is defending well.
Austin has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rutten is working away from the top position though.
Rutten is keen to just control but Austin is a slippery customer.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Austin throws the kick towards the body but Rutten avoids it.
Horrible takedown by Austin or perhaps it was just good defense by Rutten which made him look bad.

and Austin counters with a left to the body.
Rutten swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Austin counters with a good, hard body kick but Rutten shrugs it off.

Rutten misses with a double jab
and Austin counters with a good low kick that Rutten was not able to check.
Austin throws a head kick but Rutten moves out of range.

and Austin counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Rutten drives through with a takedown into Austin's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Randall Austin hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Rutten avoids the head kick by Austin.
Bas Rutten seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Austin counters with a good low kick that Rutten was not able to check.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Bas Rutten will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Rutten swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Austin counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Rutten is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Rutten dives in and grabs Austin's left leg, looking for a takedown. Austin pushes down on Rutten's head and hops out.

Rutten shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Rutten wants to pass to mount but Austin is defending the position.
Austin flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Rutten trying to control from half guard but Austin is working away.
Austin is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Rutten jumps into side control!

You can see the frustration on Austin's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Austin tries to bench press Rutten off him but Rutten keeps the position.

Rutten goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Austin has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Rutten but great work by Austin.

Rutten gets back to half guard.
Austin seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rutten does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Rutten is trying to control but can't.

Rutten is doing well to control the position and prevent Austin from advancing to side control.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Austin is trying to control the action in half guard but Rutten is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Bas Rutten overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Randall Austin wasn't active enough on the ground.

Austin might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Rutten kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Austin lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Randall Austin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Austin has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
