PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Willison Mitchell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hector Vazquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Jonathan Paton and Columbo Gatti.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Vazquez closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Vazquez is trying to drag Mitchell to the mat but Mitchell just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Vazquez pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Vazquez instigates a clinch.

Vazquez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Vazquez is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

It looks like Vazquez might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

and Vazquez counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Vazquez.
Mitchell is breathing heavily.

Hector Vazquez has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Vazquez just leaning against Mitchell , taking a breather.

Mitchell is fighting off a takedown attempt but Vazquez is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Mitchell to the mat. Mitchell regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Mitchell wants to get back to his feet but Vazquez is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mitchell is looking for a triangle here but Vazquez uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Vazquez working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Mitchell bucks up and tries to throw Vazquez off but instead Vazquez has got his back!
Mitchell might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Mitchell grimaces as he takes a shot to the body.
Vazquez keeps control of the position easily here as Mitchell tries to buck him off.
Vazquez's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Mitchell breaks Vazquez's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Vazquez trying to keep a closed guard but Mitchell is proving a slippery customer.
Vazquez pulls Mitchell in close to his closed guard and prevents Mitchell from doing any damage or advancing position.
Vazquez wants to sweep here but Mitchell controlling him for the moment.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Vazquez is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Mitchell throws a right and a left that both miss.
Vazquez shoots in for a takedown but Mitchell shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Mitchell pushes off an throws an elbow but Vazquez leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

Vazquez has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mitchell can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Hector Vazquez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Horrible takedown by Mitchell or perhaps it was just good defense by Vazquez which made him look bad.

Vazquez is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Willison Mitchell has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mitchell enables Vazquez to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mitchell manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Vazquez throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Mitchell works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Vazquez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mitchell has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Vazquez has managed to get both his arms back between Mitchell 's legs - danger averted.

Mitchell is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Vazquez has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Vazquez creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Mitchell sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Vazquez in side control lands a decent elbow.
The referee asks Vazquez politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Vazquez prefers to stall for the moment though.
Mitchell is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Vazquez has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Vazquez is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Mitchell has escaped the position, nice work there.
Vazquez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mitchell keeps working.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Mitchell manages to work his way to half guard, despite Vazquez's best efforts.
Willison Mitchell has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Mitchell is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Vazquez pulls his head out easily.
Vazquez uses his free foot to push down on Mitchell 's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Mitchell .
Mitchell is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Well Vazquez has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
