Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
7 - 4 - 1, fighting out of New York, Mike Hoiles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
12 - 12 - 0, fighting out of New York, Akimbo Jabbar!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Jorge Garcia and David Schapiro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jabbar looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hoiles is fending him off so far but Jabbar persists. Nope, Hoiles circles away and we're back to standing.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Jabbar.
Jabbar closes the distance and clinches up with Hoiles, looking for a takedown. Jabbar pushes Hoiles against the cage but Hoiles circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Mike Hoiles has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Akimbo Jabbar.
Hoiles misses with a wild combination.
Jabbar walks into a jab.
Akimbo Jabbar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jabbar shoots in looking for a takedown. Hoiles tries to sprawl out of it but Jabbar keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hoiles manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Hoiles connects with a looping right hand.
Hoiles lands with a shot to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Jabbar walks into a left hand.
Jabbar looks gassed!
Hoiles lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
It looks like Akimbo Jabbar has been cut.
Jabbar avoids a punch combination nicely.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Hoiles, right into the meat.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Hoiles feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Jabbar sprawling to the canvas! Jabbar rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Hoiles finish him?!
Jabbar is trying desperately to land a takedown but Hoiles is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Jabbar.
Hoiles closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Jabbar! Hoiles dives in looking to finish! Jabbar is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:10 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mike Hoiles!
