Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bill Russell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Goncalo Alves!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Alves, right into the meat.
Russell throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Alves.
Alves lands a leg kick that knocks Russell off balance momentarily.
A low kick from Russell is predictable there
and Alves counters with a low kick, right behind Russell 's knee.
Alves scores with a kick to the midsection.
Russell is breathing heavily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Russell takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Alves shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Alves showed some decent athleticism there.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Alves takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Let's hope that Alves has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Alves is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Russell sees it coming and defends easily.
Alves is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Russell!
Russell knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Alves on the ground.
Alves takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Alves mounts Russell! Really nice guard pass there!

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Alves looking to secure an arm triangle but Russell defends it well.
Alves controlling from mount.
Russell tries to reverse the position but Alves maintains control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Alves is working for a guillotine from mount but Russell frees his head quite easily.
Alves controlling the position easily from mount.
Alves moves to the back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Alves has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Russell has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Alves biding his time, looking for the opening.
Russell holding both Alves 's hands and preventing any damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Alves is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Goncalo Alves dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Russell fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Alves fakes the leg kick and cracks Russell in the body.
Danga de danga de dang - Alves scores with a four punch combination!
A slapping leg kick lands for Alves.
Goncalo Alves seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Alves fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Russell has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Russell takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Russell takes a head kick and keeps coming.


Russell is rocked!

That's one minute gone in the round.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Alves.
This has been an exciting period of action!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Alves.
Alves lands with a big right hook that stumbles Russell - he's out on his feet here! Alves follows up with another monster hook that separates Russell from consciousness! Russell falls, almost in slow motion to the canvas! Alves stands and admires his work as the crowd go wild.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Goncalo Alves!
