PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Hatsu Hioki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Cuervo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hioki comes into the arena with Pussy by Rammstein blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Jose Cuervo enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Sam Margolis and Steven Brown.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hioki closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Cuervo cracks Hioki with a right hand to the side of the head.
Cuervo throws a low kick, looking for Hioki's leg but Hioki calmly moves out of range.
Hioki misses with a series of wild punches.
Hioki looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Hioki throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Cuervo throws an overhand right that lands on Hioki's shoulder, as Hioki tries to avoid the shot.
Cuervo takes a swing at Hioki's ribcage but misses.
Cuervo throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Cuervo stuffs the takedown attempt from Hioki. Hioki gets slowly back to his feet.

Cuervo throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Cuervo misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hioki.
Hioki closes the distance and clinches up with Cuervo, looking for a takedown. Hioki pushes Cuervo against the cage but Cuervo circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Cuervo counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Hioki thinking.

Hioki will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Cuervo lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Hioki fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Hioki tries a head kick but it misses.
Hatsu Hioki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cuervo bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Cuervo feints a jab promting Hioki to slip. Cuervo then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Hioki slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

and Cuervo counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hatsu Hioki. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hioki shoots in but no luck this time.
Cuervo lands a two punch combo.

Hioki is breathing heavily.
Cuervo bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Hioki goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Hioki takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Hioki takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Cuervo fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Hioki, pushing him back against the cage.
Cuervo wants to get back to striking at distance but Hioki won't allow it.
Hioki is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Cuervo escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Cuervo lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Cuervo.
Cuervo throws a shot from downtown. Hioki moves away and avoids it.
Cuervo connects with a leg kick. Hioki looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Hioki takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
A slow jab from Cuervo misses its intended target.
Hioki tries a head kick but it misses.
Hioki lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.

Cuervo connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Cuervo moves into the clinch.

Cuervo pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Cuervo throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hioki throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

and Cuervo connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
A combination from Cuervo does no damage.
Cuervo blocks a head kick by Hioki.
Cuervo stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Hioki takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Cuervo scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Hioki doesn't seem bothered though.
Hioki shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Cuervo keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Cuervo takes a swing at Hioki's ribcage but misses.
Horrible takedown by Hioki or perhaps it was just good defense by Cuervo which made him look bad.
Cuervo lands a nice hook to Hioki's body. Hioki takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Cuervo is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Hioki had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.

Oh Hioki is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Cuervo cracks Hioki with a big right hand that sees him stumbling back against the cage! Hioki falls to his knees and Cuervo doesn't need a second invitatation - he rushes in and fires off several unanswered shots that force the referee to stop the fight! This one is all over!
