The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Putin connects with a nice looking jab.
Putin feints and then cracks Washington's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Washington down.
Putin throws a hook but Washington avoids it easily.
Washington looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Putin shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Washington counters with a shoot takedown. Putin fights it but they end up in guard.
Washington trying to move into half guard but instead Putin has managed to sweep!
Washington is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Putin content to stall in guard here.
Washington wants to get back to his feet but Putin is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

We're going to have a standup here because Vladimir Putin wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Putin thuds his right hand into Washington's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Putin scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Washington shoots in but Putin avoids the takedown attempt easily.
A momentary lapse in concentration from Putin enables Washington to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Putin manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Putin has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Washington throws and elbow that misses. Putin uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Washington's guard. Nice move by Putin!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Vladimir Putin.

Putin throws a nice outside leg kick.
Washington takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Putin throws a lazy uppercut
and Washington counters with a single leg into guard. Putin didn't expect that.

Washington throws a strike but Putin rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Washington wants to improve his position but instead Putin has moved into half guard.
Putin gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Washington misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Putin will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Putin moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Putin manages to break the clinch.
Putin throws a head kick but Washington moves out of range.
Putin keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Washington has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Putin finds it's way round the side to connect with Washington's head.
Look low, kick high! Putin uses the oldest trick in the book to send Washington tumbling to the canvas, in a truly brutal knockout! Putin is absolutely delighted - when Washington wakes up, I doubt he'll be quite so happy!
