PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tony English (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kent Wire (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wire has chosen Bust Back as his entrance music. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tony English!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kent Wire!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Winston Howard and Hugh Johnson.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
English will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
A combination from Wire does no damage.
English shoots in for a double leg but Wire sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Wire has closed the distance and engaged English in a clinch.
Wire is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Wire manages to break the clinch.

Wire shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in English's guard.
Wire is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
English might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Let's hope that Wire has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Wire avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
English looking for a sweep. Not yet English, not yet.
Wire looking to pass the guard.
Wire must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

English working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Wire doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Wire manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Wire wants to stand but English has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Wire is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

English has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Wire can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

English had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Wire is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. English Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Wire's back instead.
Wire really doesn't want to stay on the ground with English. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Wire wants to get back to his feet.

Wire preventing the rear naked choke attempt from English.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
I really don't envy Wire right now.
Wire trying to control but not successfully.

Wire is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if English gets his way!
English is trying to stick to Wire's back but Wire is turning into English. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in English's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Wire.
Wire is looking to stand up but English won't let him.

English wants to sweep but no luck.

English looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Wire is defending well. English quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Wire has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! English celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
