PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Benjy Bronk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ron Burgandy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Benjy Bronk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ron Burgandy!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, John Kavanagh and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Burgandy closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Bronk struggling a bit here.
Bronk is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Bronk moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Burgandy slips nicely into half guard.
Bronk wants to control but Burgandy passes into side.
Bronk manages to work his way to half guard, despite Burgandy's best efforts.
Bronk is trying to control but can't.
Bronk is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Burgandy is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Bronk is really struggling to control Burgandy but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Benjy Bronk has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Bronk gets caught napping as Burgandy dives in and scores a takedown. Bronk manages to retain guard.

Burgandy is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Bronk keeping moving, preventing Burgandy from controlling successfully.
Burgandy slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Ron Burgandy.

Burgandy shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Bronk is trying to defend but Burgandy finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Bronk is not content to let Burgandy control the position.
Burgandy is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Bronk moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Bronk is breathing heavily.
Burgandy looking to sit in guard and control but Bronk gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Burgandy not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Burgandy working a defensive guard but Bronk manages to pass into side control anyway.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Burgandy misses with an elbow from the bottom.
You can see the frustration on Burgandy's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Burgandy looks to move to half guard but instead Bronk has passed into mount! Damn!
Bronk wants to control but Burgandy has made it back to half guard. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ron Burgandy dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


The fight stays on the outside here - Bronk looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Bronk shoots and misses

and Burgandy counters with a nice double leg into side control. Bronk won't be happy with that.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Burgandy moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Burgandy throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Bronk managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Burgandy.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Burgandy working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Burgandy decides to stand back up. Burgandy steps back and let's Bronk get back to his feet.

Bronk tries to clinch up.
Burgandy throws a sloppy head kick and Bronk moves out of range easily.

Burgandy is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Bronk's half guard.
Nice strikes from Burgandy there.

Burgandy decides to stand and escape the position.
Burgandy tries to clinch but Bronk is having none of it.

Burgandy closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Burgandy lands in his opponent's guard.
Burgandy trying to control the position from guard on top but Bronk is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Burgandy is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Ron Burgandy has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Burgandy clinches up with Bronk and pushes him back against the cage.
Burgandy can't get the takedown.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bronk fails to pull guard.
Burgandy keeps control of Bronk as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Burgandy stalling against the cage.
Burgandy tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Bronk just stands there and leans against the cage.
Come on Burgandy - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Burgandy goes for a takedown in the clinch but Bronk prevents it.
Benjy Bronk has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ron Burgandy.
Burgandy fails to pull guard.
Burgandy jumps guard but Bronk stands there with Burgandy around his waist. Burgandy gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Burgandy breaks from the clinch.

Burgandy shoots in and bounces Bronk off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Burgandy wants to control from the top but Bronk keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Bronk pushes Burgandy off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Burgandy is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Burgandy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bronk. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Burgandy wants to pass the guard but Bronk is keeping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ron Burgandy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Bronk's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Burgandy fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Bronk sprawls well initially but Burgandy persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Bronk regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Burgandy.
Burgandy has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Bronk is proving hard to escape from.
Burgandy must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Burgandy trying to control the position from guard on top but Bronk is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Bronk is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Burgandy is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Burgandy missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Bronk looking for a triangle here. Burgandy is fighting it but it looks tight! Bronk pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Burgandy is tapping out - this one is all over!
