Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Baby Dragonfly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Laidlaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Baby Dragonfly has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Baby Dragonfly!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Laidlaw!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Robert Douchet and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dragonfly doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Laidlaw counters with a takedown into side control.

Laidlaw looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Laidlaw thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Dragonfly is looking to reverse the position.
Laidlaw just content to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Laidlaw looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Laidlaw thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Laidlaw wants to control for a moment but Dragonfly uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Dragonfly is not content to let Laidlaw control the position.
Dragonfly is pressing down on Laidlaw's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Laidlaw wants to stand and escape but instead Dragonfly has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Dragonfly trying to control the position from guard on top but Laidlaw is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Dragonfly is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Laidlaw is trying to control the position but Dragonfly postures up.
Laidlaw has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Dragonfly works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Laidlaw trying to hold on to Dragonfly's head to control him but Dragonfly postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dragonfly is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Laidlaw is just riding it out for now. Dragonfly eventually gives up the hold.
Dragonfly is breathing heavily.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Dragonfly is looking to advance position but Laidlaw won't allow it.
Dragonfly tries to stand but can't do so whilst Laidlaw controls his leg.
Dragonfly throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Laidlaw has his hands clasped together around Dragonfly's back. He's all about the action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Laidlaw dominated that round.

Laidlaw shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Laidlaw was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Laidlaw tries to control but Dragonfly wriggling away.
Laidlaw controlling the pace for now.

Laidlaw goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Dragonfly is on top in guard.

Laidlaw is trying to keep Dragonfly in close.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Laidlaw is pulling down on Dragonfly's head. It's preventing any offense from Dragonfly, at least for the moment.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

John Laidlaw has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Dragonfly tries to clinch up

and Laidlaw decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Dragonfly's guard.
Dragonfly keeping moving, preventing Laidlaw from controlling successfully.

Laidlaw throws a big right hand that misses.
Laidlaw tries to free his leg and advance position but Dragonfly is retaining full guard.
Laidlaw trying to control the position from guard on top but Dragonfly is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Laidlaw looking to sit in guard and control but Dragonfly gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Laidlaw has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Laidlaw wants to sweep but no luck.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Laidlaw is pulling down on Dragonfly's head. It's preventing any offense from Dragonfly, at least for the moment.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Laidlaw can do anything to dispel that myth.

The ref stands the fighters back up. John Laidlaw was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Laidlaw shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Laidlaw slows the pace down in half guard.

Laidlaw is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Laidlaw thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Dragonfly's head.

Laidlaw decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Laidlaw showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!



Laidlaw closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Laidlaw wants to stand but Dragonfly is controlling his arm.
Dragonfly is letting Laidlaw control him for a moment.

Laidlaw decides to stand back up.
Baby Dragonfly is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Laidlaw counters with a nice double leg into side control. Dragonfly won't be happy with that.
Laidlaw is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Dragonfly will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Laidlaw is looking to take a break and control but Dragonfly is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Laidlaw in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Dragonfly avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Laidlaw.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Laidlaw decides to stand back up.

Laidlaw must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Laidlaw wants to control from the top but Dragonfly keeps moving.
Laidlaw controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The ref stands the fighters back up. John Laidlaw was stalling too much, according to the referee.

John Laidlaw comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Laidlaw has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
