PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lou Cifer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Gozales (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gozales has chosen Ricky Roazy as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Lou Cifer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Michael Gozales!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Wagner Zegers and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cifer fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Gozales.

Gozales is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Cifer's half guard.
Cifer is controlling Gozales's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Cifer wants to control but Gozales is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Cifer preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Cifer has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Lou Cifer wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Cifer is looking to clinch but Gozales is avoiding it.

Gozales gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Gozales throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Gozales avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Cifer pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gozales is keeping the position for now.

Gozales wants to stand up but Cifer is controlling him.
Cifer controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Gozales bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cifer's guard.
Cifer is trying to keep Gozales in close.
Gozales sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Cifer's guard.
Cifer is trying to control but can't.
Cifer is holding on to half guard well.
Gozales not landing any meaningful shots this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gozales trying to control the action but Cifer is working from the bottom.
Well, if Gozales is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Gozales is trying to control the action in half guard but Cifer is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Michael Gozales wasn't active enough on the ground.
Gozales scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
A decent looking body kick lands there for Cifer.
Lou Cifer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cifer is breathing heavily.
Gozales closes the distance looking to clinch

and Cifer counters with a nice double leg into side control. Gozales won't be happy with that.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Cifer working the ground and pound.
Gozales should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Cifer grinds an elbow into Gozales's temple.

Gozales manages to get back to half guard.
Gozales gets full guard.
Gozales is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Cifer is looking to improve his position.
Cifer trying to control here.
Gozales controlling the action here.
Cifer is trying to control but can't.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gozales trying to control from half guard but Cifer is working away.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Gozales scores with a sloppy right hand. Cifer should have avoided that one.
Gozales throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cifer's waist but Cifer gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gozales off to one side.
Nice sprawl there from Cifer as Gozales shoots in.
Cifer misses with a head kick.

Gozales manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Cifer on his heels. He'll look to pass Cifer's guard now, I'm sure.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cifer is trying to keep Gozales in close.
Cifer pulls Gozales in close to his closed guard and prevents Gozales from doing any damage or advancing position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Lou Cifer will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!



Cifer scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Cifer wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gozales keeps working.
Gozales manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gozales is working for a submission of some sort.
Cifer gets full guard.

Gozales gets to his feet. Cifer looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Gozales with a poor takedown

and Cifer counters with a shoot takedown. Gozales fights it but they end up in guard.
Gozales not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Gozales is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Cifer is trying to get back to full guard.
Gozales is trying to control the action in half guard but Cifer is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Gozales thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Cifer's head.
