PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Oscar Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mitsi Fili (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diaz kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Trick Daddy - Let's Go ft Twista & Lil Jon. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 11 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Oscar Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mitsi Fili!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Konstantin Menshow and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fili misses with an uppercut
and Diaz cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Fili misses with a double jab
and Diaz counters with a one-two to the body.
Nice defenses there by Fili.
Fili avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Fili misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Diaz.
Fili misses with the combination.
Fili misses with an uppercut
and Diaz counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Diaz uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Fili.
Diaz will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Diaz closes the distance and clinches.

Fili's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Fili displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Diaz.

Fili bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Diaz throws a right and a left that Fili avoids nicely.

Fili keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
A left lands for Diaz.
Diaz cracks a nice hook into Fili's ribs.
Fili punishes Diaz's body with a nice straight punch.
Fili jabs Diaz right on the nose. Diaz blinks but takes it well.
Fili displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Diaz throws out the jab.

so Diaz counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Diaz has gone for a leg lock! Fili slips out almost immediately though and dives into Diaz's guard.
Fili wants to stand but Diaz is controlling his posture from full guard.

Diaz had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Fili defends it easily.

Diaz has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Fili is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Diaz.

Diaz tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Diaz is trying to work for a sweep but Fili has mounted him!
Diaz might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Fili stands up from mount. Strange move.
Diaz staying out of range there.
Fili is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Diaz on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Diaz looks for a takedown but Fili sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Oscar Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Diaz's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Fili connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Diaz scrambles back to his feet.

and Diaz counters with a nice double leg into side control. Fili won't be happy with that.

Diaz goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Fili has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Diaz but great work by Fili.

Diaz is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Fili asserts his dominance and retains side control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Diaz looks to move to half guard but instead Fili has passed into mount! Damn!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Fili swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Fili scores with a jab to the body.
Fili throws an off balance right hand
and Diaz counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

so Diaz counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Diaz controls from within his opponent's guard.
Diaz trying to control but Fili is working from the bottom.
Diaz throws a strike but Fili rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Diaz looking for a guillotine here but Fili defends easily.

Diaz looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Fili has picked Diaz up and slammed him! Diaz can't keep hold of the triangle and Fili manages to pass to side control!
Diaz tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Fili wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Diaz is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Fili off and has taken his back!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Fili is having to fend off submission attempts from Diaz, who is looking to sink in the choke. Diaz doesn't have the hooks in though and Fili manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.
Diaz tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Diaz has his foot on Fili's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Fili works his way back into a safe position though.
Oscar Diaz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Diaz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Fili doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Fili manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Fili decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Diaz, up you get!

Nice takedown defense from Fili. No joy for Diaz on that attempt.

Diaz drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Fili manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Diaz has Fili in his guard.

Diaz is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Fili defends well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Diaz's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Diaz circles away from the clinch attempt.
Fili comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Fili throws a nice looking combination but Diaz bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Fili tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Diaz was well out of range. Poor timing from Fili.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mitsi Fili seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The crowd cheers as Fili lands an impressive looking overhand right. Diaz doesn't seem phased though.

Mitsi Fili is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Diaz looks to throw the jab but Fili is out of range.

Fili moves into range and clinches up with Diaz.
Diaz is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Fili pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Fili tries a body shot but Diaz blocks it.
Diaz has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Fili avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Fili fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Diaz has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Fili regains guard immediately.
Diaz postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
