PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kalevi Kumijalka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pencil Neck (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kumijalka kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is compella & the twister - put ur weed up. Neck has chosen Rolling Stones - Paint it black as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Kalevi Kumijalka!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 14 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Pencil Neck!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Sergei Dronov and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Neck shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Kumijalka manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Neck trying to control the position from guard on top but Kumijalka is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Neck is stalling in the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neck decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Kumijalka gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Neck is pushing Kumijalka up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Neck decides to pull guard.
Neck wants to hit a switch here but Kumijalka passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Neck there!

Neck keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Kumijalka stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Kalevi Kumijalka seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Neck gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Kumijalka tries to land a knee to the head but Neck blocks with his arms.
Kumijalka throws a knee to the head but misses.
Kumijalka dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.

Neck jumps guard.
Neck wants to improve his position but instead Kumijalka has moved into half guard.
Neck is looking for a sweep. Kumijalka is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Kumijalka prevents Neck from standing back up.
Neck tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Kumijalka manages to move to mount!

Kumijalka is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Neck closes the distance but Kumijalka moves to the side

and Kumijalka counters with a single leg into guard. Neck didn't expect that.
Neck looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kumijalka is one step ahead there.

Neck is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Kumijalka is aware though and is defending well.
Neck wants to stand but Kumijalka is controlling the position.
Neck is trying to keep Kumijalka in close.
Neck trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Neck looking for a sweep. Not yet Neck, not yet.
Neck lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Kumijalka!
Kumijalka's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee warns Kumijalka that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Kumijalka is bucking up trying to escape but Neck cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Neck working for a guillotine from mount but Kumijalka is in no mood to give up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pencil Neck dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Kumijalka stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kumijalka wants it to stay on the feet.
Kumijalka misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Kumijalka throws a sloppy head kick and Neck moves out of range easily.
Kumijalka tries to clinch up.

Kumijalka clinches up with Neck and pushes him back against the cage.
Neck fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Kumijalka throws a knee to the head but misses.
Kumijalka has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Neck has Kumijalka pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Kumijalka manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Kalevi Kumijalka has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pencil Neck.

Neck tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Kumijalka just stands there and leans against the cage.

Kumijalka gets to his feet. Neck looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Kumijalka with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Neck obliges.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Neck works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

and Neck makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Neck fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kumijalka manages to avoid it.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Neck!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Neck is defended easily by Kumijalka.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Neck wants to get back to striking at distance but Kumijalka won't allow it.

Kumijalka moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Neck shoots and misses
and Kumijalka counters with an inside leg kick.
Neck goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Neck shoots in for a double leg but Kumijalka sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Kumijalka pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Neck instigates a clinch.
Kumijalka connects with a nasty looking knee right to Neck's face.
Kumijalka using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Neck has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Neck is trying to maintain a safe position but Kumijalka gets an underhook and turns Neck into the cage.
Kumijalka's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Neck jumps guard but Kumijalka stands there with Neck around his waist. Neck gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Horrible takedown by Neck or perhaps it was just good defense by Kumijalka which made him look bad.
The fight stays on the outside here - Kumijalka looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kumijalka moves in looking to clinch but Neck pushes him off.
A head kick from Kumijalka lands but Neck takes it in his stride.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pencil Neck showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Pencil Neck has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

and Neck decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kumijalka's guard.

and Neck counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Neck.

Neck is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kumijalka sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Neck takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Neck shoots in looking for a takedown but Kumijalka manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Neck's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Kalevi Kumijalka has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kumijalka scores with a head kick. Neck tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Neck attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.

Pencil Neck comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Neck winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
