The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Venetiaan moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
James slips under a jab.
James shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Venetiaan walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Venetiaan scores with a punch to the head.
Venetiaan throws an uppercut from half a mile away. James sees it coming and avoids it easily.

James tries a low kick but Venetiaan avoids it.

James shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Venetiaan pinned against the cage. Venetiaan gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Venetiaan has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. James avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

James forces Venetiaan back against the cage and clinches.
James is struggling to control the position.
James pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
James is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
James throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Venetiaan blocks it with crossed arms.

Venetiaan wants to break the clinch but can't.
James lands a good knee to the midsection. Venetiaan won't want to take too many of those.

James has picked Venetiaan up - he's going for a ride! James dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

James is nestled in close to Venetiaan, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

James is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Venetiaan defends it well.

James looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Venetiaan with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
