Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Travis Merle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ryan Clarkson!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Eliza Hachem and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Clarkson misses with a takedown attempt

and Merle counters with a nice double leg into side control. Clarkson won't be happy with that.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Clarkson looking for a sweep but Merle has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Clarkson is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Merle controlling the pace for now.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Clarkson can do anything to dispel that myth.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

and Merle decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Clarkson's guard.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Clarkson holds on and takes a little breather.

Travis Merle has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Clarkson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Merle tries to free his leg and advance position but Clarkson is retaining full guard.

Merle stopping the sweep attempt from Clarkson.

Merle has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Merle tries to clinch but Clarkson moves away

and Clarkson counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Clarkson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Merle swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Merle looking for a sweep. Not yet Merle, not yet.
Clarkson controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Merle wants to improve his position but instead Clarkson has moved into half guard.

Let's hope that Clarkson has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ryan Clarkson has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Clarkson shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Clarkson was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Clarkson tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Merle wants to hold on but Clarkson pushes him away.
Clarkson controlling his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan Clarkson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Merle throws a chopping leg kick but Clarkson manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Clarkson wants to control but Merle is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Travis Merle overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Merle stalling away here and it's allowed Clarkson to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Merle seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Merle wants to stand but Clarkson is controlling the position.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Ryan Clarkson hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Clarkson has his takedown stuffed
and Merle counters with a low kick, right behind Clarkson 's knee.
Clarkson tries for a takedown but Merle circles away easily
and Merle makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Clarkson really felt that one!
Travis Merle has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ryan Clarkson.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
A slapping leg kick lands for Merle.

Clarkson throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Merle tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Clarkson is in Merle's guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Well Merle has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
