The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maia fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Soendergaard sprawls well initially but Maia persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Maia is working for a submission of some sort.
Soendergaard tries to get to full guard but Maia has control of the leg.
Maia looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Soendergaard is trying to get back to full guard.
Soendergaard is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Maia pulls his head out easily.
Soendergaard wants to control but Maia is keeping busy.

Soendergaard is defending against the submission attempts here by Maia.
Maia is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Soendergaard trying to control but Maia postures up.
Maia is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Maia is looking for a kimura but Soendergaard is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Maia to get the leverage.
Soendergaard wants to improve his position but Maia is controlling well.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Maia is just content to waste time from the top position. Soendergaard takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Soendergaard looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Maia has picked Soendergaard up and slammed him! Soendergaard can't keep hold of the triangle and Maia manages to pass to side control!
Soendergaard tries to buck Maia off but Maia is having none of it.
Maia postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Soendergaard is looking to regain half guard here but Maia keeps moving and retains side control.
Soendergaard can't do much from the bottom here.
Maia wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Soendergaard, who protects the arm well.
Soendergaard is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Maia is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Soendergaard looks calm but he's in trouble here. Maia gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Soendergaard is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Maia lets go of the hold and Soendergaard can pop his arm back in it's socket.
