Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gregory Steele (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Russ Rutger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Rutger's choice of entrance music: Oh...Canada by Classified. Russ Rutger acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gregory Steele!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Russ Rutger!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Chad Campbell and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Steele doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Rutger counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Steele moves to clinch but Rutger breaks away
and Rutger counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Rutger connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Steele momentarily.
Steele shoots and misses
and Rutger counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Rutger connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Steele is looking to clinch.
Steele has his takedown stuffed
and Rutger counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gregory Steele. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Steele tries to control but Rutger wriggling away.
Rutger is looking to improve his position but Steele isn't that keen on the idea.
Steele is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Rutger can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Steele thows a huge punch but Rutger dodges it nicely.

Steele is working for a submission of some sort.

Rutger makes his way to full guard, as Steele worked for a kimura.
Steele will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Steele wants to control from the top but Rutger keeps moving.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Rutger manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Steele really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Russ Rutger will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rutger in particular looking to stall.
Rutger looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Steele with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Steele tries to roll over but Rutger keeps him under control.
Steele is working hard here to advance position.
Rutger is stalling here. Steele is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Rutger seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Steele has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Steele throws a strike aimed at the side of Rutger's head but Rutger avoids it well.
Rutger tries to improve position but can't.

Rutger is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Steele's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Rutger is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Steele's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Steele's back!
Russ Rutger has got the better of the ground game so far.

Steele can't escape the position.
Rutger is landing with strikes. Steele can't take much more of this.

Rutger has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Steele.
Rutger slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rutger lands a shot to the head.
Steele is trapped and Rutger is scoring with shots to the head and body.
Steele really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Rutger connects with a big shot to the side of Steele's head.
Steele breaks Rutger's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Steele loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Rutger is on top in guard.

Rutger is keen to just control but Steele is a slippery customer.

Rutger is taking a breather. Steele says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Rutger wants to control but Steele is keeping him busy.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Rutger content to control rather than advance.
Steele is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Rutger scores with a couple of nice shots.
Rutger stalling away here and it's allowed Steele to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Rutger postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Russ Rutger showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Rutger throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Steele walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Gregory Steele seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Rutger swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Steele.

Rutger uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Steele.
Steele needs to keep his hands up - Rutger had a free shot at his head there.

Rutger dips to his left and cracks Steele with an uppercut!
Russ Rutger is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Rutger cracks Steele with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Steele throws a head kick that misses.
Steele drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Steele looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

Steele bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Rutger scores with a jab to the jaw.
Rutger lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Steele takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
An inside leg kick lands from Rutger.
Gregory Steele has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Russ Rutger comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rutger has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
