PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Terry Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Grant Gordon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Walker kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Cult of Personality. Gordon has chosen Last resort as his entrance music. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Terry Walker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Grant Gordon!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Nard Betker and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Walker wants to clinch but Gordon slips to the side

and Gordon counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Gordon not doing much here.
Gordon is pressing down on Walker's thigh, looking to free his foot. Walker is holding on for now.
Well, if Gordon is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Walker wants to get back to full guard.

Gordon wants to get back to his feet.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Grant Gordon wasn't active enough on the ground.
Gordon looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Walker tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Gordon has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Grant Gordon was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Walker changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gordon tries to avoid it but Walker manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gordon to the ground. Gordon escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Walker will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Terry Walker. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gordon displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Walker.
Walker tries to score a power double leg takedown but Gordon sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Walker somewhat.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

so Gordon counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Grant Gordon dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Gordon uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Walker tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Gordon paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Walker misses with a wild combination.
Walker misses with a series of wild punches.
Walker misses with a takedown
and Gordon counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Walker rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gordon moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Gordon moves into the clinch.
Walker tries for a takedown but Gordon manages to get underhooks.

Gordon's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Terry Walker is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Walker shoots for a takedown but Gordon saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

and Gordon counters with a left and a right that stings Walker.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Gordon shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Walker is trying to defend but Gordon finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Gordon in particular looking to stall.
Let's hope that Gordon has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Grant Gordon wasn't active enough on the ground.
Gordon stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Gordon wants it to stay on the feet.

Gordon feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Walker is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Gordon counters with a stiff right hand.
Walker fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Gordon avoids it really well and circles away.

No luck for Walker with that takedown attempt.
Nice straight punches there by Gordon. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Gordon.

Walker wants to clinch but Gordon slips to the side

and Gordon counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Gordon decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

and Gordon counters with a nice double leg into side control. Walker won't be happy with that.

Gordon has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Gordon's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Walker wants to control but Gordon postures up.

Grant Gordon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Gordon tries to close the distance and clinch but Walker swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Walker jumps guard but Gordon stands there with Walker around his waist. Walker gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Walker goes for a takedown in the clinch but Gordon prevents it.

Gordon breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Gordon attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Gordon looks to land a body kick but Walker moved away.
Walker tries for a takedown but Gordon circles away easily
and Gordon counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
A head kick misses from Walker.
Walker shoots in but Gordon avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Walker throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Walker shoots in and drives through. Gordon sprawls well.
Gordon throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Walker shoots and misses
and Gordon counters with a big head kick but Walker shrugs it off.
Walker darts in trying to clinch
and Gordon makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Walker wants to clinch but Gordon slips to the side
and Gordon counters with a three punch combo that has Walker backing up. Walker nods at Gordon to acknowledge the strikes.
Walker takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Walker misses with a jab to the body

and Gordon decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Walker's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gordon tries to free his leg and advance position but Walker is retaining full guard.
Gordon must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Gordon lands a couple of elbows.

Walker wants to stand up but Gordon is controlling him.
Gordon scoring with some ground and pound.
Gordon slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Grant Gordon comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Gordon has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
