PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Reggie Diggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Utheg Bloodrock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diggs's entrance music is Lupe Fiasco - Words I Never Said. A fine choice. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Reggie Diggs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Utheg Bloodrock!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Robert Twigg and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Diggs instigates a clinch.
Bloodrock lands with a right to the head.
Bloodrock is looking for a takedown up against the ropes. Diggs gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Diggs pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Diggs connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Bloodrock's hands.
Bloodrock takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Bloodrock closes the distance and pushes Diggs back into the ropes.

Bloodrock has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Diggs is trying to keep an underhook but Bloodrock manages to get the takedown into half guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Diggs is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Bloodrock's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Bloodrock's back!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Bloodrock tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Bloodrock is wriggling around trying to escape.

Diggs is working for a guillotine from mount but Bloodrock frees his head quite easily.

Diggs has hold of Bloodrock's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Bloodrock manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Bloodrock is desperately trying to improve his position but Diggs has a good base and remains in mount.

Bloodrock is bucking up trying to escape but Diggs cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Bloodrock sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Bloodrock is trying to maintain the position but Diggs is very close to passing his half guard.

Diggs seems to be looking for submissions.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Diggs connects with a nice short shot to Bloodrock's temple.
Bloodrock works his way to full guard. Good work.
Bloodrock avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Bloodrock looking to hit a scissor sweep but Diggs is one step ahead there.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Diggs makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Diggs lands a couple of elbows.
Diggs distracts Bloodrock with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Bloodrock working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Diggs doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Diggs manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Diggs drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Bloodrock dives on top into guard.

Diggs drops an elbow to the side of Bloodrock's head.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Diggs lands a nice short elbow.
Diggs seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Bloodrock tries to get to full guard but Diggs has control of the leg.
Bloodrock keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Diggs is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Bloodrock sees it coming and defends easily.
Diggs landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Diggs thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Bloodrock's head.
Bloodrock is looking for a sweep. Diggs is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Bloodrock is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Diggs's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Diggs's back!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Bloodrock doesn't have the hooks in and Diggs manages to turn into his guard.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Diggs has his foot on Bloodrock's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bloodrock works his way back into a safe position though.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Bloodrock rushes Diggs and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.
Diggs prevents the takedown attempt.
Diggs struggles to land a body shot inside as Bloodrock controls his hands.

Diggs pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Bloodrock closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Bloodrock is trying to remain composed but Diggs is hammering down strikes to the side of his head.
Reggie Diggs overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Diggs lands an elbow to the side of the head.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Diggs's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
You can see the frustration on Bloodrock's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Bloodrock rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Diggs is looking for a kimura but Bloodrock is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Diggs to get the leverage.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Diggs looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Bloodrock tries to get to full guard but Diggs has control of the leg.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Diggs lands a couple of digs.

Bloodrock has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Diggs can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Diggs has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Bloodrock wants to sweep here but Diggs controlling him for the moment.

Diggs keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Bloodrock's head.
Bloodrock looking to hit a scissor sweep but Diggs is one step ahead there.
Diggs wants to control from the top but Bloodrock keeps moving.
Bloodrock is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Bloodrock in particular looking to stall.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Bloodrock shoots for a takedown but Diggs saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Diggs has taken the fight to the clinch.
Diggs tries to throw a body punch but Bloodrock avoids it by throwing Diggs back against the ropes.
Bloodrock goes for a takedown attempt but Diggs pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Bloodrock will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Diggs defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Bloodrock.
Reggie Diggs has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Utheg Bloodrock.
Diggs doesn't manage to clinch there - Bloodrock circles away.

Diggs throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Bloodrock tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Diggs is in Bloodrock's guard.

Diggs lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Bloodrock takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Diggs got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bloodrock has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Diggs has managed to get both his arms back between Bloodrock's legs - danger averted.

Diggs drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Diggs as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Bloodrock screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Diggs! Nice submission victory there!
