PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Randy Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Donnie Holnick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Williams comes to the cage accompanied by Alice In Chains - Rooster. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Randy Williams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Donnie Holnick!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Patrick Alders and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Holnick tries a head kick but it misses.
Nice takedown defense from Holnick. No joy for Williams on that attempt.
Holnick thows a body shot but no joy.
Williams has his takedown stuffed

so Holnick counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Holnick trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Holnick is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Williams's shoulder. That is not cool.

Williams tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Holnick wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Holnick gets to mount! Williams was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Holnick prevents Williams from getting the reversal.

Holnick postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Williams looks a forlorn figure.
Holnick in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Holnick takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Williams can't escape the position.
Holnick controlling the pace for now.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Williams tries to reverse the position but Holnick maintains control.

Holnick might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Williams kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Williams tries to lock up and control but Holnick gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Holnick postures up and lands a big shot to Williams's brow.
Williams is trying to control the position but Holnick postures up.

Williams isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Holnick stacks Williams on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Holnick!
Holnick has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Holnick is looking to take a break and control but Williams is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Donnie Holnick.
Holnick throws an overhand right that lands on Williams's shoulder, as Williams tries to avoid the shot.
Williams tries to clinch but Holnick moves out of range.

Holnick drives through with a takedown into guard.
Williams throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Holnick trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Holnick's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Donnie Holnick was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Williams thows a leg kick but Holnick checks it
and Holnick counters with a slapping leg kick.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Williams enables Holnick to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Williams manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Holnick looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Williams controls Holnick momentarily but Holnick frees himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Donnie Holnick showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Williams swings for the body but Holnick moves out of range.
Holnick connects with a solid leg kick.
Holnick swats away the attempt to clinch by Williams.
Williams changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Holnick tries to avoid it but Williams manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Holnick to the ground. Holnick escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Holnick scores with a decent looking hook.

Holnick feints and as Williams raises his hands in defense, Holnick changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Williams is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Holnick slips nicely into half guard.
Williams wants to improve his position but Holnick is controlling well.

Holnick seems to be working for a kimura but Williams defends the submission attempt.

Holnick is stalling here. Williams is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Holnick seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Williams has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Donnie Holnick comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
