The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Desalvo shoots in for a double leg but Roth sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Roth closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Roth lands in his opponent's guard.
Roth has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Roth looking to sit in guard and control but Desalvo gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Roth will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Roth can't keep his opponent in guard - Desalvo advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Roth tries to get to full guard but Desalvo has control of the leg.
Desalvo is stalling here. Roth is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Desalvo seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Roth has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Desalvo tries to improve position but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Desalvo managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Roth.
Roth is looking to take a break and control but Desalvo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Desalvo has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Roth! Can he survive? No! He's out! Desalvo gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
