PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mohammed Mohammed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Renato James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James has chosen Rob Zombie - Never Gonna Stop as his entrance music. Renato James is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mohammed Mohammed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Renato James!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Skip Squint and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mohammed throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
James goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
James doesn't manage to clinch there - Mohammed circles away.
A right-left combo lands from Mohammed.
Mohammed displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
James throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mohammed's waist but Mohammed gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing James off to one side.
James is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

James closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Mohammed to the mat! Mohammed manages to get full guard.

James wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mohammed keeps working.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Mohammed darts in and clinches James up against the cage.
Mohammed really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
James misses with a knee to the head.

James wants to control but Mohammed is keeping him busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mohammed regains half guard, as James was trying to land strikes.
Mohammed is staying active underneath James, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Mohammed is looking for a sweep. James is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
James working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
James is pressing down on Mohammed's thigh, looking to free his foot. Mohammed is holding on for now.
Mohammed is trying to defend against the ground and pound but James scores with a couple of nice shots.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
James wants to pass the guard but Mohammed is defending well.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
James tries to clinch but Mohammed moves away

and Mohammed counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Mohammed.

James is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Mohammed Mohammed has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Renato James.

Mohammed breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Mohammed fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with James, pushing him back against the cage.

Mohammed tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

and James counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

James stands and steps away. Mohammed gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
A left and a right from Mohammed both land. Nice combination.

Mohammed clinches up with James and pushes him back against the cage.

Mohammed breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

and Mohammed counters with a head kick. That will keep James thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

James breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mohammed looks to land a combination but James avoids it well.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Mohammed.

James changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mohammed looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
James just content to control the position.

Mohammed is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. James doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Mohammed.
Mohammed is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Renato James dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Mohammed moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
James shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mohammed as he jumps to the side.

Mohammed misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
James tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mohammed swivels and escapes.
James tries to land a front kick but Mohammed steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

James tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no James has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
James has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Mohammed.
Mohammed is trapped and James is scoring with shots to the head and body.
James scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.
Mohammed is taking damage to the body and head.
James lands punches and elbows.
James lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by James.
Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards James.

Mohammed wants to get back to his feet.

Mohammed is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Oooh a big shot gets through from James. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!

Renato James showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Mohammed's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


The fight stays on the outside here - Mohammed looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

James bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mohammed's guard.
James postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
James sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Mohammed's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

James looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

James is just content to waste time from the top position. Mohammed takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
James wanted to stand there but Mohammed had control of the position.
Mohammed wants to sweep but no luck.
James slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
James has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

James is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Mohammed is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Mohammed has escaped and now he's on top!

James not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Mohammed will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Mohammed is looking to take a break and control but James is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
James wants to control but Mohammed postures up.

James tries to buck Mohammed off but Mohammed is having none of it.

James has Mohammed pulled in close to control his posture.
James lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Mohammed!

Mohammed is desperately trying to improve his position but James has a good base and remains in mount.

Mohammed bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Mohammed postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Renato James comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got James winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
