PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Toby Boi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Terry Yahn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Boi comes to the cage accompanied by "Stricken" by Disturbed. Terry Yahn will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Toby Boi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Damien Edna and Bruno Hogan.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Boi drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Yahn pushes Boi away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Boi gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Boi is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Yahn has escaped the position, nice work there.

Yahn throws Boi to one side and escapes!

Boi looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Yahn avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Boi.
Yahn tries to get to full guard but Boi has control of the leg.
Yahn is trying to maintain the position but Boi is very close to passing his half guard.
Yahn looks gassed!
Well, if Boi is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Yahn is not content to let Boi control the position.

Boi seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Boi tries to stand but can't do so whilst Yahn controls his leg.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Yahn is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Yahn blocks a head kick by Boi.
Yahn tries to clinch up but Boi circles away and keeps his distance.
Boi looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Boi throws a series of punches but Yahn avoids them all with ease.

Terry Yahn is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Boi has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Boi closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Boi decides to stand back up. Boi steps back and let's Yahn get back to his feet.
Boi looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Yahn circles away from the clinch attempt.
Boi fails in his attempt to clinch.
Boi thows a left - swing and a miss!

Boi takes the fight into the clinch.
Yahn wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Boi has him pressed against the cage.
Yahn wants to break the clinch but can't.

Boi prevents Yahn from breaking the clinch.

Boi escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Yahn throws a right and a left that both miss.
Boi fails in his attempt to clinch.

Yahn throws a series of punches but Boi avoids them all with ease.
Boi takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Yahn moves out of range of the strikes.
Boi throws a hook but Yahn avoids it easily.
Yahn rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Boi moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Boi tries to clinch up but Yahn circles away and keeps his distance.
Boi slips a jab and a cross from Yahn.
Boi throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Yahn's waist but Yahn gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Boi off to one side.
Boi looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Yahn throws a right and a left that Boi avoids nicely.
Boi fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Yahn closes the distance looking to clinch

and Boi counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Boi.

Yahn breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Yahn lands the left hand.
Boi throws a right and a left that both miss.
Yahn fails to land with a series of punches.
Yahn lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Yahn cracks Boi with a right hand to the side of the head.
Yahn connects with a good right hand that stumbles Boi. Boi circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Yahn misses with a series of wild punches.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Boi throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Yahn counters with a left and a right that stings Boi.

Boi feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Boi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Yahn swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Boi decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

and Boi decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Yahn's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Yahn is trying to keep Boi in close.
Yahn working a defensive guard but Boi passes into half guard.
Boi stops Yahn from getting back to his feet.

Boi escapes and gets back to his feet.
Yahn avoids the head kick by Boi.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Horrible takedown by Boi or perhaps it was just good defense by Yahn which made him look bad.
The fight stays on the outside here - Yahn looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Boi throws and low kick but Yahn moves out of range easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Toby Boi dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Boi will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Boi shoots in and bounces Yahn off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Yahn is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Boi throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Boi wants to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Yahn wants to lay and pray for a moment but Boi keeps working.
Boi tries to roll over but Yahn keeps him under control.
Boi manages to get to full guard.
Yahn is breathing heavily.

Boi scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Boi fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Yahn on the side of the head.

Yahn is rocked!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Boi lands with a right and another and another! Yahn is in big trouble! Boi lands again and this time it's lights out for Yahn! A quality knockout there for Boi.
