PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rock Head (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phil Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Head comes into the arena with Walk blaring out of the sound system. Phil Davis will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rock Head!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Phil Davis!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Donatello Bradman and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Head dives in and grabs Davis's left leg, looking for a takedown. Davis pushes down on Head's head and hops out.
Davis lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Head misses with a body shot.
Head on the wrong end of a nice hook.

Head scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Davis is trying to stand back up but Head is controlling him
Head throwing shots but Davis is blocking nicely.
Head thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Davis's head.
Head lands strikes from half guard.
Head is trying to control the action in half guard but Davis is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Davis pushes Head off looking to stand but Head dives back in and keeps control.
Head is looking to take a break and control but Davis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Head thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Davis's head.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Davis can do anything to dispel that myth.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Head scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Head lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Head escapes and gets back to his feet.
Davis tries to clinch up but Head circles away and keeps his distance.
Head looks for a takedown but Davis sprawls well.
Davis takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
A clash of legs there as Davis blocks the low kick.

Head feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Head is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Head trying to control but Davis is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Davis is looking to stand up but Head isn't so interested in that idea.
Davis can't keep his opponent in guard - Head advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Head takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Head seems to be working for a kimura but Davis defends the submission attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Head sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Davis defending well though.
Head is trying to control the action in half guard but Davis is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Head is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Davis is just riding it out for now. Head eventually gives up the hold.
Head wants to control but Davis is keeping him busy.

Head is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Head seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Davis is trying to stand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rock Head dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Head circles away from the clinch attempt.
Davis defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Head.
The fight stays on the outside here - Davis looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Davis misses with a shot to the body
and Head counters with a slapping leg kick.
Davis's corner calls for a 1-2. Davis obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Davis lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Head backs up against the cage.
Davis with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Davis throws a leg kick but Head checks it.
Davis misses with a series of wild punches.

Davis takes the fight into the clinch.
Davis working hard to break the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Head tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Davis just stands there and leans against the cage.
Head tries for a takedown. No joy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rock Head. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Head fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Davis can't find room to land a body shot as Head controls the action.
Head is trying to break free.

Davis breaks from the clinch.
Davis throws a right and a left that both miss.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Davis throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Davis moves into range and connects with a jab.
Davis swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Davis goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Head shoots in looking for a takedown but Davis manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Head's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Phil Davis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Davis stuffs the takedown.
Davis throws a series of punches but Head moves out of range.
Davis scores with a crisp jab that stopped Head in his tracks.
Head uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Davis.

Davis has closed the distance and engaged Head in a clinch.
Davis is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Davis makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Davis lands with a right to the head.
Davis holding his opponent close, against the cage.

Davis breaks the clinch.

Davis has taken the fight to the clinch.
Head drops down looking for an ankle pick but Davis pulls his leg out and moves away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nice takedown defense from Davis. No joy for Head on that attempt.
Davis jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Davis stuffs the takedown.
Davis fails to land with a series of punches.
Davis swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Davis throws a hook but Head avoids it easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
The fighters circling - Davis throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Davis misses the jab.
Davis does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phil Davis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


A looping hook to the body misses from Davis. Head does a little dance to reset his feet.

and Head counters with a shoot takedown. Davis fights it but they end up in guard.
Davis keeping moving, preventing Head from controlling successfully.
Head working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Head trying to control the position from guard on top but Davis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Head postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Head stands up over Davis, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Head prevents Davis from getting back to his feet.

Head with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Head thows a big elbow that misses.
Head with a flurry of punches that miss.
Davis takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Head wants to control from the top but Davis keeps moving.
Head keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Davis's head.
Rock Head overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Davis wants to get back to his feet but Head is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Head's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Head is looking to work some ground and pound but Davis has wrist control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Davis utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Head cracks Davis with a solid left hand.
Davis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Head. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Davis wants to stand up but Head is controlling him.
Head working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Head gets to his feet. Davis looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Davis misses with a double jab.
Head ducks under a wild hook from Davis.
Head throws a series of punches but Davis avoids them all with ease.
Davis swings for the body but Head moves out of range.
Davis stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Davis wants it to stay on the feet.
Phil Davis seems to be getting the better of the standup.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Davis thows a left - swing and a miss!
Head shoots in for a takedown but Davis shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Phil Davis is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Davis tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Head was well out of range. Poor timing from Davis.
Davis tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
A leg kick checked by Head.
Davis ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Head moves away.
Davis stuffs the takedown attempt from Head. Head gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rock Head. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Davis lands a lovely overhand right.
Davis throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Head.
Davis will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Head swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Davis misses with a jab, cross combination.
Davis thows a leg kick but Head checks it

and Head counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Head is working Davis over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Head has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Head working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Davis's head.

And that's the end of the fight!
Rock Head showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Head has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
