PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nacho Grande (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Jacobs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Sam Jacobs was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nacho Grande!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sam Jacobs!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Skip Squint and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grande takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Jacobs uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Grande.
Grande throws a body punch but Jacobs moves out of range.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Grande is defended easily by Jacobs.
Grande tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Jacobs was well out of range. Poor timing from Grande.

and Jacobs counters with a left and a right that stings Grande.

Jacobs closes the distance and clinches.
Jacobs stalling the fight.
Grande tries to circle away but Jacobs has him pinned against the cage.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Jacobs creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Jacobs lands a knee to the head.
Grande is trying to break the clinch but Jacobs has him pressed against the cage.

Grande wants to get back to striking at distance but Jacobs won't allow it.

Jacobs jumps into guard, dragging Grande to the mat.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Jacobs is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Grande is aware though and is defending well.

Jacobs really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Grande. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Jacobs tries to lock up and control but Grande gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Grande takes Jacobs's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Jacobs is in trouble.

Grande working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Grande keeps control of the position as Jacobs tries to break free.

Grande tries to get the hooks in deep but Jacobs pushed the leg off.
Jacobs rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Grande is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Jacobs is defending against the submission attempts here by Grande.

Grande looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Jacobs is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Grande pulls his head out easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Grande shoots for a double leg takedown but Jacobs sprawls well. He's pushed Grande's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Grande is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Grande drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Grande jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Grande trying to control the position from guard on top but Jacobs is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Grande sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Jacobs's guard.

Nacho Grande overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Grande is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Jacobs with him. Jacobs is trying to defend but Grande has an arm under the chin now! Jacobs grimaces and is forced to tap out!
