Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Sutter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Berndt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James Berndt has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mark Sutter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Berndt!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Eliza Hachem and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sutter looking to score a takedown here. Berndt is defending well but Sutter drives through and ends up in Berndt's guard.
Sutter stops Berndt from standing up.
Sutter forces his way into half guard.
Sutter is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Sutter has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Mark Sutter.

Sutter closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Sutter gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Berndt pushes Sutter off looking to stand but Sutter dives back in and keeps control.
Berndt tries to get to full guard but Sutter has control of the leg.
Berndt is looking to escape.
Sutter with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Mark Sutter just wasn't active enough.
Berndt closes the distance but Sutter moves to the side

and Sutter counters by moving into the clinch.

Berndt putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Sutter in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
Sutter is breathing heavily.
Berndt scores a nice knee to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Berndt breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

and Sutter decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Berndt's guard.

Berndt pushes Sutter off and gets back to his feet.

and Berndt moves into the clinch.
Sutter blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Sutter avoiding damage as Berndt throws knees to the body.

Berndt tries to land a knee to the head but Sutter blocks with his arms.
Berndt throws an elbow that misses.
Berndt tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Sutter has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Berndt is trying to keep an underhook but Sutter manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Sutter stops Berndt from getting back to his feet.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. James Berndt wasn't active enough on the ground.
Berndt tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Sutter counters by moving into the clinch.
Berndt is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Sutter is defending well for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mark Sutter will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Mark Sutter just wasn't active enough.
Sutter fails with the takedown.
Berndt tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Sutter counters with a shoot takedown. Berndt fights it but they end up in guard.
Sutter controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Mark Sutter just wasn't active enough.
Sutter shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Berndt pinned against the cage. Berndt gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Berndt wants to clinch but Sutter slips to the side
and Sutter counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Sutter closes the distance and clinches.

James Berndt seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Berndt is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.

Sutter has hold of one of Berndt's legs. Berndt is fighting the takedown attempt but Sutter gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Sutter looking to sit in guard and control but Berndt gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Sutter is trying to keep Berndt in close.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Mark Sutter will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Mark Sutter's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!



Sutter shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Berndt napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Berndt is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Sutter is controlling him well.
Sutter content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Mark Sutter.
Berndt moves to clinch but Sutter breaks away
and Sutter counters with a one-two to the body.
Berndt looks to clinch

and Sutter counters with a shoot takedown. Berndt fights it but they end up in guard.
Sutter is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Sutter fails with a takedown attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Sutter gets a clinch.
Mark Sutter is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Sutter can't get the takedown.
Berndt throws a knee to the head but misses.

Sutter is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Berndt can't fight it off and eventually Sutter manages to take the fight to the floor. Berndt looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Berndt looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Sutter puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Sutter is controlling the pace.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mark Sutter showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sutter, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
