PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between David Booker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luka Pele (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Booker comes into the arena with Dont go for the one - Gaelic Storm blaring out of the sound system. Pele comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Beogradski Sindikat-Na bojnom polju kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, David Booker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Luka Pele!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Paulsen Ambrosius and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Booker closes the distance and pushes Pele back into the cage.
Booker digs a right hand underneath Pele's ribcage. Pele let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Booker breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Pele gets caught flat footed, as Booker shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Pele is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Pele looking to hit a scissor sweep but Booker is one step ahead there.

Pele is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Booker defends well.

Pele working for submissions but it's allowed Booker to get to half guard.
Booker is controlling the pace.

Booker is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Pele has managed to free his arm - good work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pele is holding on to half guard well.
Booker looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Pele wants to get back to full guard.
Booker content to control rather than advance.

Booker decides to stand and escape the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Pele tries to sprawl but Booker drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Pele is looking to escape.

Booker stands up and beckons Pele to join him on the feet.
Booker cracks Pele with an open hand slap.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Booker has taken the fight to the clinch.
Booker lands with a right to the head.
Booker misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Pele.

Booker turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Booker decides to stand back up. Booker steps back and let's Pele get back to his feet.
David Booker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Pele shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Booker is trying to control but can't.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Booker makes his way to full guard, as Pele worked for a kimura.
Pele looks gassed!

Booker is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Booker keeping moving, preventing Pele from controlling successfully.
Pele throws a strike but Booker rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Booker stands up from guard. Let's bang!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Booker tries to land knees in the clinch but Pele avoids the damage to the body.
Booker lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Pele backwards.
Booker is trying to drag Pele to the mat but Pele just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
A nice left hand lands by Booker.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Booker misses with a knee strike.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Booker dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Pele fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Booker to the ground. Pele is now in Booker's guard.
Pele trying to control the position from guard on top but Booker is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
David Booker overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Booker seems keen to control Pele's posture.

Pele looking to sit in guard and control but Booker gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Booker wants to pass the guard but Pele is keeping the position.

Pele pushes Booker off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
A lazy left from Booker finds it's target.

Pele shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Booker wants to control but Pele is having none of it.
Pele trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Booker is working to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Booker tries to lock up and control but Pele gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Pele jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Booker is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Booker and Pele has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Booker tries to buck Pele off but Pele is having none of it.
Booker manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Booker is looking to control Pele's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Booker avoid being mounted?

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pele looks to land a strike but Booker avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Pele looking to sit in guard and control but Booker gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Booker gets to his feet. Pele looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Pele shoots in and bounces Booker off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Pele pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Booker is keeping the position for now.
Pele is breathing heavily.
Pele is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Booker is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Booker has hold of one of Pele's legs. Pele is fighting the takedown attempt but Booker gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Pele looking for a sweep. Not yet Pele, not yet.

Booker stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Pele scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Booker pushes Pele off and gets back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Booker lands a glancing blow to the side of Pele's head.
Booker works Pele's body with a nice hook.

Pele gets tackled into the cage by Booker. Booker maintains the clinch.

Booker breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that David Booker will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Some wild striking there from Pele.
Pele walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Booker gets a double leg takedown into Pele's guard.
Booker wants to pass the guard but Pele is keeping the position.
Booker sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Pele is trying to hold Booker in close to prevent damage but Booker has managed to pass into half guard.

Booker is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Pele doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Booker.

Booker decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Booker lands an overhand right.

Booker shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Pele napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Booker is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Pele knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Pele manages to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Booker missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Pele slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Pele being controlled here, momentarily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pele is trying to control the position but Booker postures up.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Pele is working an open guard so Booker takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Booker manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Pele on his heels. He'll look to pass Pele's guard now, I'm sure.
Pele takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Pele is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Pele is working an open guard so Booker takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Pele gets a double leg takedown into Booker's guard.
Booker is adopting a defensive guard.

Booker has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pele can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Pele tries to free his leg and advance position but Booker is retaining full guard.

Pele controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Booker has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Booker looking for a sweep. Not yet Booker, not yet.
Luka Pele has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
David Booker is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Booker seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

And that's the end of the fight!
David Booker showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Booker has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
