Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fedor Filipovic!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Karl Papke!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Felipe Paraventi and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Filipovic shoots for a takedown but Papke saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Papke throws out a leg kick but Filipovic moves out of range and Papke only half commits.
Filipovic fails with the takedown.
Filipovic changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Papke tries to avoid it but Filipovic manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Papke to the ground. Papke escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fedor Filipovic. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Papke tries to land a front kick but Filipovic steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
A nice leg kick lands there from Papke.
Filipovic avoids a kick to the body.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Filipovic is defended easily by Papke.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Papke.
Papke throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Filipovic.
Filipovic shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Papke as he jumps to the side.
Papke looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Fedor Filipovic seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Filipovic scores with a takedown into Papke's guard.
Filipovic is breathing heavily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Filipovic is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Papke is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Papke is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Filipovic defends well.
Papke throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Filipovic drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Filipovic seems to have locked his on tight now - Papke screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Filipovic, as he picks up the win!
